It has been one year since the death of Dr. Falwell! He did a FANTASTIC job getting the next generation ready to take over. What an impressive job Jerry Jr. and Jonathan have done!

I still miss him and cannot wait to see him again! I would say RIP, but we know the guy is doing anything but resting!!

Every time I hear a clip of him or read an article it seems like he is still here. What a giant hole he has left, but what a great job the 2 sons have done filling it.

I remember back in 2004 when our son went to Iraq for the first time. I emailed Dr. Falwell and asked him that if he had the time to call my son and pray with him because my son was leaving for Iraq the following day. I gave Dr. Falwell my son's cell number and left it at that thinking that if he did have the time it would be alot later. Well, lo and behold my son calls me all excited within the half hour and tells me that Jerry Falwell just called him. Dr. Falwell gave him the most encouraging words telling him that God would protect him and bring him back home and then he prayed with him. My son first thought it was a joke but realize through the phone conversation that it really was him.......AND THEN, Dr. Falwell emailed me back, said the same encouraging words to me. I was so moved and so touched by this thoughtful and kind gesture, if I wasn't a fan of him before, I sure was then! I miss you Dr. Falwell and I can't imagine how much more Macel and your children/grandchildren do too.

A year ago today, the Rev. Jerry Falwell stepped into his office at Liberty University following a breakfast meeting and soon drew his last breath.

His death shocked the campus and sent many into days of mourning. Crowds swarmed the sanctuary of Falwell’s Thomas Road Baptist Church immediately as the news spread, many crying and consoling each other.

“A giant has fallen,” declared Ron Godwin, the university’s executive vice president, during the impromptu service.

Now Falwell’s family wants to make sure his office in the Carter Glass Mansion, where he spent the last 16 years of his life, stays just as it was when he died.

I went to Lynchburg to cover the death & funeral for the Christian Broadcasting Network, which as many of you know was founded by Pat Robertson. On the drive over, the reporter was trying to pick my brain about who Dr. Falwell really was -- the person who you wouldn't hear anything about on the nightly news.

The one thing the reporter, George Thomas, couldn't grasp was how personable Falwell was. George knew religious leaders such as Pat who would be friendly, but would still have this "I'm more pious than you" aura surrounding them. I tried to explain to George that Falwell wasn't like that -- he was the type of guy who you could walk up to, introduce yourself, and Jerry would just talk to you as if you were the only person in the world who mattered at that moment.

I experienced that MANY times. So did my parents.
He was a great person, not just a big shot!

I didn't know much about Doc prior to stepping foot on campus in the fall of 01 for froshweek. My first experience was the second day there, after my parents had left. DeMoss was under construction so the sidewalks were rough to work with and I was trying to figure out where I was to be next and all of a sudden I am looking face to face with a black Suburban with a crazy horn blowing. Scared the junk out of me because I thought I had walked out onto the street. Oh no, I was on the sidewalk and so was he. Of course to those who had already spent time on campus this was nothing new but to me it was kinda scary. He rolled down his window called me over and introduced himself and kindly directed me to my next location. I am proud to say that wasn't my only run in with the big man and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't miss the man.
