My only brush with the "band" was a number of years ago, calling a hockey game in Charlottesville. Unplugging
my equipment, yelling profanities near my crowd mics..yeah, that was a night I'd like to forget.

Mind you, this was right after the whole Tinky Winky thing..some UVA player got a hat trick (we still killed them),
and they threw Tinky Winky dolls on the ice.

Stay classy, UVA.

I was just implying you aren't facing the USC's or WVU's yet, just the Mt. Union's and Wisconsin-Whitewater's. It's a metaphor, of sorts.

look, you can support the banned band till your blue in the face... thats fine with me, and im sure its fine with everyone else. i just disagree with it, and its obvious others do too. i think their 'band' runs counter to everything you've tried to make the LUnatics.

i mean, its ok to be wrong on occasion... ur still FOTY imo...

Your response had nothing to do with my question.

it does actually...

no matter what anyone says, you're going to find another reason to support the pep band... and thats ok. u can. feel free.

i think it was good that they were banned and that behavior like that has no place in sporting events. its low class and certainly not high in sportsmanship.

and im not the only one that feels that way...

And obviously I'm not the only one who thinks they should be able to play. If you'd read, you would see that.

And why do you get to crown yourself right in this and deem me wrong? What all-knowing power deemed you responsible for whose opinions were right and whose were wrong?

And I was wondering the same thing about the way you defend your opinions sometimes

Right there you said you were right and I am wrong. Who deemed you able to say that on an opinion? We can both believe something else, but I have yet to say you were wrong for your beliefs, yet you just said that about mine.

ok, that was a half joke...prolly should've put an lol behind it, BUT... (and i really just wanted to let this die and agree to disagree)

theres NO way you can get biblical authority to support actions like that. if you believe the bible to be true (and im sure you do) then you cant find any support for treating people like the pep band did.

lets see...

blasphemy/religious mockery of God... check
mockery of an organization for its stand on homosexuality... double check
cursing... check
messing with other people's property (borderline vandalism)... check

yep all that stuff is biblically ok...

I never said that a Christian should do that stuff. I said that if they want to do it then let them. It's not my place to say what they can and can't do. There's a little thing called free will that goes in place here. They chose to attend a secular university where saying those words and making those jokes is not against the rules. If they choose to do this stuff then fine. I can think what was said was over the line and not right as a Christian and still feel that they should be able to do what they want.

yes, but the university also has a right to control what goes on at its events, and they give up some of those rights when they chose to attend that university (as im sure we are all aware...lol). for example, the freedom of speech does not include the right to shout FIRE in a crowded theater.

likewise, the university has the right to decide that persons (in this case organized groups) attending its events do not have the right to engage in egregiously offensive behavior. its one thing to support a team and heckle the opposing team. usually its all in good fun. sometimes it crosses the line, and if a group can't determine for itself where that line is (or perhaps more to the point, doesnt CARE where that line is) then the university has every right to bar that group from attending as a group in an effort to stop that behavior.

im sure the university might let them behave in that particular way as individuals (maybe) but when they do it as a group it reflects badly on the university as a whole and the university has a responsibility to protect its reputation and image.

UVA can do anything they want when it comes to supporting/not supporting the Pep Band. If UVA see them as inappropriate, then the decision to not support them shouldnt be frowned upon. UVA staff work for the best intrests of UVA, and if a number of controversial statements are giving a bad vibe from UVA, then theres no reason UVA shouldnt distance themselves from the Band.

The Pep Band should be able to do anything they want as long as its not illegal. However, I would think that if UVA officials dont want them around(specifically on campus) then they are in a tight bind. They can do whetever they want, but if the purpose is to support UVA athletics then its pointless if you are banned by the school you support. If theyre just continuing the pride of the past and being funny and in a way rebelling against the awful authorities, then thats their choice to make and they are just a band.

Either way both parties can do what they want as long as they stay seperate
