well. There you go.

Question. Does Holland get a different type of scholly to finish up his degree? I remember reading a story about one of our previous QBs who had transferred in from Washington. He used up his eligibilty here and Washington gave him a scholarship to come back and finish his degree to count for their grad rates.

So, that's 6 freshman in next year's class (counting Stephene), if we redshirt at least 1, that will leave us with only 5 graduating seniors in 4 years. You have to think someone will be redshirted because we're not going to play 12 guys. So who should it be?

Jesse Saunders, Seth Curry, Johnny Stephene, Brolin Floyd, Carter McMasters, or Austin Smith?

Seth Curry- not going to happen
Carter - not going to happen
Stephene - very unlikely since he was here this year and didn't play

So I think it's either Saunders, Floyd or Austin Smith.

How did he manage that?
Well you have to have a minimum score on the SAT/ACT and a minimum GPA and he must have fallen short in one of those areas. He was only 5-7 but I know Ritchie liked him a lot. However he likes Sanders a ton as well.
OK, I guess it's semantics, but if it was the NCAA academic standards he fell short of, that makes sense, as opposed to being turned down by LU admissions after meeting the NCAA standards, which would have to be for other reasons.

You can only redshirt a player once, so Stephene can't be redshirted next year unless it's a medical for one reason or another.

I knew that. I don't know what I was thinking.

Was Stephene redshirted or was he academically ineligible? I didn't think you could redshirt a player who was ineligible. In fact, it doesn't even look like he was even on the roster last year.

Yeah he was ineligible, but I'm sure he still used up a scholly.

oh yeah, for sure he did. But I think that year has to count and he only has 3 years of eligibility left.

When Louvon Sneed was ineligible, was he redshirted or did he lose a year of eligibility?

He has four years of eligibility. Once you step foot on campus you have five years to play four. Whatever the reason you take an extra year doesn't matter.

I'm pretty sure Stephene had to pay his own way last year. I don't think Freshmen non-qualifiers can be on an NCAA scholarship.

That's likely what happens. It happens in every sport every year. They pay their own way and then when they get eligible they can get their scholarship and come in as redshirt freshmen.

there you go. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how he could be on the team last year but be on suspension from the get-go without a semester under his belt. That makes a lot more sense.

Why would he come in as a redshirt freshman then? He wasn't on the team last year. You can't redshirt if you're not on the team.

right, so he didn't redshirt. I think that we've just established that.

Because you get five years to play four. It's not a hard concept. If there's a reason you don't play at some point in time during those five years, it would be considered a redshirt year.

Coach McKay just needs to make an announcement so we're all clear :D

What kind of announcement is needed? Stephene will have four years of eligibility left when he plays next year. This was his redshirt year.

bannister paid his way to go to liberty for the first year, and then he was on scholly the next. It is likely that Johnny paid last year, and he will be a freshman on the court. But he has already used one of his five years to play the four, so he wasnt on the team, but he still lost one of the five years.

I think you're confusing everybody with that term because it means different things to different people.
