Do you know anything about Youngstown other than they're a name? Seriously, I'm asking. Because if you did, you'd know their offense wasn't that great right now. You should've used Elon for an example.
Youngstown was the first school to come to mind, but Elon is going to be a HUGE game for us as well. They obviously showed last year that they can score a lot and in a hurry, and there is a very real chance that we could have a 14 game home winning streak going into that game. My point is we can't expect the offense to be the only thing that produces big.
I decided to do a little research and here are the number of points allowed over the course of the last 2 years:
2006
vs. St Paul's- 0 points
vs. Glenville St.- 7 points
vs. Towson (A)- 10 points
vs. Savannah State (A)- 0 points
vs. Wake Forest (A)- 34 points
vs. William and Mary- 14 points
vs. Gardner-Webb- 27 points
vs. Coastal Carolina (A)- 28 points
vs Western Carolina- 0 points
vs. Charleston Southern- 20 points
vs. VMI (A)- 32 points
2007
vs. Tusculum- 14 points
vs. Shippensburg- 14 points
vs. William and Mary (A)- 48 points
vs. Elon (A)- 42 points
vs. St. Francis (PA)- 10 points
vs. Toledo (A)- 35 points
vs. Charleston Southern (A)- 10 points
vs. Presbyterian- 14 points
vs. Coastal Carolina- 24 points
vs. VMI- 34 points
vs. Gardner-Webb (A)- 0 points
We can put up a lot of points, that is for sure. The question for me is, are we going to be able to consistently stop the other team. in 2006 we allowed 30 or more points 2 times (1-1 record). In 2007 we allowed 30 or more points 4 times (1-3 record). In 2006 we allowed 10 or fewer points 5 times (4-1 record). In 2007 we allowed 10 or fewer points 3 times (3-0 record). As reekingly obvious as this may sound, If we can get the defense that has allowed 10 or fewer points 8 times in 2 years and won 7 of those games, we'll be fine. If we get the defense that has allowed 30 or more points 6 times in 2 years and lost 4 of them, this could be a disappointing year even if we do defend the conference title.
