LUconn wrote:"we are all hokies at heart"

What does that even mean? Just like that Billboard on Wards road that says "There is a Hokie Heaven". What? There is? I didn't know Heaven was going to be divided up by school. I'm glad I went to college then.

But seriously, I hope our baseball teams stomps on their heads. I don't think this guy is really a flames fan like he thinks he is.
I've seen that Billboard...this may be terrible, but everytime I see it, I think to myself that the sign sends a wrong message...I'm tempted to say, "Well, if there's a Hokie Heaven, then there's also a Hokie Hell". We all have a decision to make regarding our Savior...During tragedies, people want to make it seem like everyone goes to Heaven...but we know that's not the case...

BTW - no disrespect meant to VT in the above statement. At any given college, there are some people who have accepted Christ, and some rejected...

Anyways, I was just trying to say I don't like that sign.

I am all for supporting the families of those who lost loved ones...they could even do something special before the National Anthem or something like that...but I graduated from LU so I'm cheering for the Flames once the game starts.

the first, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th amendments dont stop at the school house door. why should the 2nd?

that being said, go LU... BEAT VT!
Totally uncalled for, by the way.
no, "totally uncalled for" is some guy walking into a school and killing 32 people that cant defend themselves...

No, it was uncalled for. We were discussing whether or not people should support VT during a sporting event on the anniversary of the killings, and you used that to turn the forum into an anti-gun control tirade. Granted, it wasn't as bad as turning the forum into a bikini-girl discussion, but still. Go push your politics somewhere else.

As for the game itself, it's akin to the Yankees made it to the World Series in 2001. We all cheered when we saw Rudy Giuliani throw out the first pitch... But after that, go Diamondbacks.

Smoothy, the Lynchburg paper lists 7:00 p.m. (but they've been wrong before). Sadly, the local fishwrap only mentions the game at the very bottom of sports page under "Looking for a game?" but there's no article about the VT-LU game, on the one-year anniversary of the shootings.

From smoothie's fishwrap ...
Games will go on for Hokies prior to evening vigil

By Mark Berman | The Roanoke Times

Virginia Tech will remember the victims of last year's shootings at a Drillfield ceremony this morning and with a candlelight vigil tonight.

And on the softball field this afternoon.

Classes have been canceled for the one-year anniversary of the shootings, but the 19th-ranked Hokies will host Liberty University in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.

"I think it's going to be very emotional," pitcher Angela Tincher said. "It's hard to realize that it's been a whole year. It's not really sinking in. It's hard to kind of grasp that, because it still doesn't seem like it would happen somewhere like here, even though it's been a year."

There will be a moment of silence before the doubleheader. A family member of one of the victims will throw out the first pitch.

Sly, now I'm really confused. I thought LU was hosting Tech in baseball, and now you are posting a softball article on the baseball thread. Is LU playing Tech in baseball in Lynchburg AND in softball in Blacksburg?

Here's to hoping that the bats are still hot and confidence is sky high after crushing the Tribe last nite. We all knew this team had it in them; it's nice to see them get it done. :D

According to Liberty's athetics page, ALL CAPS Smoothy is correct on the times/locations (have you ever considered drinking decaf?).

Yeah, it was wrong. I was off yesterday, otherwise I might have caught the mistake. Whoever was working desk probably assumed that every weekday game was a 7 p.m. start now. Tech requested the 3 p.m. start, from what I understand.

Wednesday games also start at 3 because of church.

Good suggestion, Smoothy. That half caff coffee doesn't always do the trick for me first thing in the morning.

So I shouldn't wear my Tech hat to the game today? (I do have 6 hours of graduate credit from there in 1989).
