Well from what I heard from his coach, they haven't heard much from LU since the initial conversation. Now I know that Coach has been busy of late but Im dropping him an email today to let him know that they want to talk more.

BJ, I think Coach is more worried about winning now and keeping his job than some kid who is only a junior.

I know. I just wanted to make sure that both sides got together.

Well my boy Ryan was in the house for the Charleston Southern game and he goes back home and helps the boys beat their arch rivals from Portsmouth Christian to complete a season sweep 3 days later, then close out the regular season beating Isle of Wight Academy to finish the year on a 5 game win streak. They faced Atlantic Shores in the final of the Metro Conference tournament (no report on that one) with a 8 game win streak on the line and will be heading to the state tournament (last I checked they were #2 in the rankings for their division If any of the Flamefans back in the 757 can find the current private school rankings that would be helpful). Ryan had 8 3s and 37 points in their round 1 win over Hampton Christian. Hopefully Coach can have him in the house Tuesday for the tournament game

Update on Stonebridge in the 2007 VISBA State Playoffs:

Stonebridge came in as the #1 seed and faced Timberlake in the semifinals: The Tornadoes from Lynchburg gave the Cavaliers(Hey UVA isn't the only team called the Cavaliers in this state) all they could handle and Ryan scored "only" 24 points as SB won 73-70 and advanced to the semifinals

In the semifinals at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, THe Cavaliers met up with the 12th seeded Evangel Christian School from Colonial Heights VA. Ryan led all scorers with 40 points and SB advanced to the finals 79-72. Today at 3:30 they will be facing the private school version of George Mason this year, Calvary Christian Academy (a school borne out of my home church Calvary Revival Church from Norfolk, VA) The 10th seeded Warriors knocked of the 7th seed Southside Baptist, the 2nd seed Grace Christian Academy, and the 3rd seeded Amelia Academy in their march to the state title game. Basically this game is going to be a battle of guys that can drop insanely large amounts of points as CCA brings in James Dennully who scored 32 in their win over Amelia.

Well I emailed the new coach about Ryan, and I was referred to Coach Eaker, who I emailed about him. I did make sure to email Bob Good at Flames Club to make sure that everything is on the up and up (since FlameFans is a part of the Flames Club and I am a part of FlameFans)

BJ, Flames Club has nothing to do with FlameFans whatsoever. I think Good and Co. would be quite happy if FlameFans didn't exist at all.

Ok. When PA was down for the spring Game SJ told me to email him and make sure there wasn't some problem with NCAA rules with me trying to connect RD (and now RMK) with this Ryan as a possible recruit)

That's a valid concern but, unless you're trying to recruit this Barbosa kid yourself, you're in the clear.

Lib, FlameFans.com is a member at the $250 level of the Flames Club, that's where the issue comes up. Technically we're boosters, but I don't know if that applies to just people who paid or the entire site.

Still, unless FlameFans.com is actively trying to recruit a kid (contact, cajole, collude), it's a non-issue.

Bob Good got back to me and sounds like everything is in the clear since Im not actively trying to bring Ryan here, just making the connection between the coaching staff and the coaches at Stonebridge. Really that's all I can say without compromising the process since chances are folks from the athletic department do read this board apparently

Well nothing new from the coaches (but again they do have to tread lightly when it comes to discussing recruits) so no news is good news at this point. Im hoping Ryan that Ryan gets a chance wherever he goes (although Id like him to play for RMc and the Flames)

Well sorry for trying to hype up a kid from my area as a possible addition for LU. I did finally get an email from COach Eaker saying that they may get another look at him in the fall if he has not already signed. Im guessing that some of the guys that we have documented on here are ahead of him in the proverbial pecking order for 2008 (which is the nature of college recruiting)

Well after the coaching change he wasnt somebody they were targeting anymore...I think he is looking at Virginia Wesleyan or Christopher Newport now last I checked. I think we were the only DI school looking at him seriously before the change.

Were we looking at him, seriously? Or was it just DJBJ emailing the staff about him.

They actually were looking at him (well the former staff was). He made a visit to Liberty at least once, and Im pretty sure that he would have been offered if not for the change

A kid that was going to get offered before a coaching change doesn't end up at a DIII school.

I had told the new staff about him and basically they said that he was not as high on their priority list and my guess is that once things shook down recruiting-wise he wasnt someone the new staff wanted to continue going after.

Assuming we were going to go after this kid, there's an obvious question here that I don't feel like asking right now.
