As most of you know, we play VT on the one-year anniversary of the shootings. There's a group on Facebook that seems to be advocating us to show up and support VT instead of supporting Liberty. Here's the description for the group:
LU has the honnor of playing VT on the anniversery of the shootings

This is an awsome way not only to show support but to let them know:

THEY ARE VIRGINIA TECH

and on this day:

We are ALL HOKIES

i may be a Flames fan but growing up in Va and still today i suppot the Hokies and i feel that it is important that no matter what flag u wear on your head on 4-16-08 you show that deep down We are all Hokies at heart

even UVA fans are allowed to show up lol

EVERY ONE PLEASE SHOW UP AND SUPPORT OUR HOKIES!
Now, I'm all for honoring them before the game. However, once the first pitch is thrown, we're not all Hokies. We're Flames and they're Hokies.

What does everyone else think of this?

We've never been all Hokies. I hate to call anything stupid but that whole deal has been ridiculous since the close of the tragedy. I am all for showing support to the VT community and honoring those who lost their lives but not for going that far.

I'm all for honoring the memories of the victims by letting law abiding students take guns to class and stopping insane psychopaths in their tracks instead of letting them gun students down like ducks at an amusement park game by stripping them of their second amendment rights when they walk through the school house doors and turning them into defenseless targets for anyone that feels like breaking the law.

the first, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th amendments dont stop at the school house door. why should the 2nd?

that being said, go LU... BEAT VT!

Hm.....

As a guy from NJ I dont have a whole lot of say on this one, simply bc Im not from around here and dont understand the cultural impact one shooting can have on a whole state. But what the heck. If these "Hokies" were "Hokies" on December 19 (MBB vs. LU), January 24 (vs. Duke) and February 16 (vs UNC) then they are Hokies, fine. If not, whats the point? I mean if your allegiance has never been to VT then why should it now?

No one who wasnt a part of VT on April 14 should consider being one the next day.

i am so sick of this! i feel for the families and the community, i really do and of course you honor those that died, but it is time to move on, and the fact that the local media blows this up is ridiculous. it is a day that people will not forget, but i just think it is time to move on!

we were never all hokies...never. We could never understand what they went through...we could pray for them and be compassionate, but we were never all hokies. I always hated that phrase, and I think I hate this even more.

It just bugs me that Liberty kids are pushing for other Liberty kids to support VT when they play Liberty.

"we are all hokies at heart"

What does that even mean? Just like that Billboard on Wards road that says "There is a Hokie Heaven". What? There is? I didn't know Heaven was going to be divided up by school. I'm glad I went to college then.

But seriously, I hope our baseball teams stomps on their heads. I don't think this guy is really a flames fan like he thinks he is.

We should show respect like a moment of silence ( only because of it being a year ago today), but all flames fans should be wearing red and blue and cheering only when LU scores.

Yeah, let's give everyone guns so that more people can come onto campus packing heat and everyday arguments turn into gunfights.

More guns = More shootings. Take off the Right Wing NRA Blinders and wake up. I am not saying people shouldn't be allowed to own guns (although in a perfect world they don't need them), but knowing the people that I know who are in favor of being able to carry a concealed weapon on campus... I would be afraid for my life if these people could legally carry a gun wherever they wanted to. People don't need more guns. If anything, we need less. Tragedies are going to happen, it's a part of life. Adding more guns into the equation isn't a solution at all. Life will be lost, regardless, we live in a sinful world. Lets not add more fuel to the fire.

People are already allowed to carry guns pretty much anywhere they want. I'm guessing you didn't know that or you would never leave campus.

Mow down the Hokies!

(Note: the preceding was clearly a wish for LU pitching prowess and not an allusion to machine-gun fire)

Oh I know that... But I don't want to get to the point where a debate of Calvinism vs. Armenianism in Theology 201 leaves 3 dead and 4 more wounded. The more places we are allowed to have guns, the worse off we are.

I know this is going waaaay off-topic here but I was in Tegucigalpa a few years back. When the shops there close at night, each and every store has a guy who sits out front and stands guard with a semi-automatic rifle. I'm not kidding. You walk around about 8 in the evening and there's a guy with an AK sharing a smoke break with his neighbor who's got a Belgian FAL strapped to his back. There's literally thousands of these guys standing on the city streets every night.

I was there for a month. There were zero shootings. Take that for what it's worth.

Liberty Baseball #1! With a bullet!

Negatory, good buddy. I put said disclaimers in parentheses which, of course, makes them bulletproof.

(Note: the preceding use of the term "bulletproof" is in the legal sense only.)

wow... the only thing to the left is your voting preferences...

you apparently haven't done much research into crime statistics in places that have mandatory carry laws, vs. places here guns are banned. more guns = LESS crime. PERIOD!

go flames!

are you serious? have you even RESEARCHED why the founding fathers INTENTIONALLY put the second amendment in the bill of rights?

Just for the sake of novelty, I'm going to say that I doubt that you've actually resarched it either. Something about your overwhelming sense of exclamation and the imperative comes across as less than empirical.

Edit: I stand corrected. Research abounds.
