i did not see this posted anywhere but the new master plan shows the horseshoe for williams stadium, a addition to worthington with that road being closed, a new twelve court tennis facility by the sotball field, an expanded softball stadium and a ton of new intramural fields on the east side of campus going toward appomattox. it also appears that the new football practice field will have something built on it.

LU master plan to be presented
posted on Monday, April 7, 2008 by Ron Brown | in General News

Liberty University officials are scheduled to meet today with the Lynchburg Planning Commission to present the school’s new master plan.

The plan, which was eight months in the making, is part of an application for a city conditional use permit, which would allow LU to grow to 15,000 residential students. LU is expecting about 11,300 residential students when classes convene in the fall.

wow, this pretty much ends any and all speculation about facilities that we've ever had on here. This is the end of an era.

The plan includes a drawing of proposed roads, future buildings, dormitories, athletic facility improvements, traffic improvements and additional parking lots.

It also includes a new ski slope planned for the side of Liberty Mountain...

LU’s presentation to the planning commission will include rezoning requests to build the ski slope and a new intramural field complex, Beaumont said. It will also include a LU “sign package” to allow the university to build additional monumental "welcome" signs.

This thing is sooo detailed. There's so much to talk about. My head is going to explode. This is like, 5-10 years worth of board members snooping around leaking info to us all in one shot released by the school itself.

The most important thing I see on here: can you say Hello Traffic Circle! We should put a sweet eagle monument in the middle island part.

I was surprised it took a couple hours for it to hit here. I saw it at work but couldn't post it.

There is a crap ton of stuff going in. I had figured most of it, but the one thing I didn't even consider was new classroom buildings which it looks like we're getting three or four.

Also, what's going next to the FOC? That's one thing I can't figure out. Unless they're putting an opponents locker room underneath the new bleachers in the end zone, it may be that, but that's a weird place for that.

a few things

1. the circle is untouched
2. a comms tower right above the LU. yuck
3. the blue "new construction" not only enclosing a horshoe, but also over existing seating. Does that mean we can assume that is an upperdeck/skybox seating?
4. how is it possible to build a road and parking lot that goes inbetween Wingate and candlers mt rd? that's some pretty steep grade.
5. a lot of new parkinglots while keeping the old lots. It'll be 1 big asphalt campus
6. this map doesn't include what we'll be doing with the mall when we buy it.

i'm sure they won't mess with the circle until attendance is either capped or stops growing so much
i think the upper deck sky boxes have been in the plans, its just a matter of putting it in once its needed. we don't want an empty stadium
Are you seriously complaining because we are getting new parking?
they can't include the mall because there is no official plan that we are going to get it even though we all know we will eventually

there is so much on this thing it is hard to even digest it all...my main question would be the big parking lot going in on north campus...its blue...does that mean 2 parking garages or 2 huge parking lots?

I think 2 parking garages right there would be perfect when the football stadium expands....

this campus is going to look so different in a few years....

I am. The current parking is more like makeshift parking. They just paved wherever they could find a spot. New parking will be more efficient (square lots being the key). And since we've got buses up and running, they need to get rid of the lots in the central campus area. It's hideous as is.

so if you were the one in charge and had 10,000 students and several thousand employees on your case about not enough parking, what would you do?

A good working/functional Bus system eliminates the need for a lot of parking.

not really. the pits are fine for residential students, but commuters and teachers still need somewhere to park at.

well it certainly eliminates the need for the lots in front of and beside Demoss and beside Religion hall too. And I'm sure a couple of others. Large lots on the outside of campus or ideally parking garages. Although I believe parking garages are extremely expensive.

the lot in front of Demoss is practically gone with the new fountain thing they have there. The religion hall lot is for professors and is still needed. The lot beside demoss is for profs and handicapped people and is still needed as well. what would you prefer they do? tear up the lots and put in a flower garden?
