This was actually brought up by Nick in Game 1...BSC is D3 in all sports except softball. The reason for that being that the Big South would lose its auto-bid to the regionals if it did not have 6 teams. With Gardner-Webb joining in all sports in 2008-09, BSC was given an extra year to stay at D1 in softball so that the conference maintain their auto-bid until G-W officially becomes a full member. Softball will become D3 starting with the 2009 season. (And of course everybody knows about Presbyterian also joining as a full member)
