Rising r-senior running back Branden Ore has left the Virginia Tech football program, the athletics department announced on Wednesday. Ore's departure, while not a surprise, will make this a very important spring for some young and inexperienced running backs.

LIBERTY! :D If he is a transfer, he is clearly coming to LU, since LU lives off of transfers.

His cousin lives on my hall. I think if he had more than one year of elgibility left, he'd probably send out waves to come here.

BJ, correct me if I'm wrong, but running back is one area where the Flames don't need any help next year.

That would be correct CJ. The cupboard certainly is not bare in that particular area and even if Ore did come to the mountain, he would not get that many carries. Rashad is the man at RB here, just like Brock is the man at QB.

Funny, but when I first read he was leaving, transferring to an FCS school as a 5th year senior didn't occur to me at all, although after a singularly unimpressive Junior year he might benefit from the opportunity to put up some numbers against weaker opponents. I was thinking he would test the NFL waters. He did have a nice career going at VT until last year, and I suspect at least part of his dropoff was due to nagging injuries and less effecient O-line play. I don't think he would be drafted, but some teams would probably take a look at him as a free agent.

... or his dropoff could've been related to off the field issues. He's still a kid for all intents & purposes and sometimes it is tough to let go of friends that drag you down.

His best friend is a crack dealer. Let's not beat around the bush here. He's been dismissed from the team more than once. It's amazing he stayed around this long.

In this instance, yes. VA Tech is known to give more and more chances than most schools. He just didn't click with the coaching staff and was more interested in himself than the team. He got caught up in the wrong crowd.

His position coach said he'd never even had the kid come in his office just to talk about life and what's going on. The only time Ore would come in would be because he was in trouble.

LOL are you serious that Rashard is a better rb...noooooooooooo Way. Ore runs away from Miami's secondary when he got loose...Rashard gets gang tackled by Coastal Carolina..and he isnt running away from too many Big South Secondarys...Ore isnt Kent Hicks his Ego is inflated he was the man he wouldnt downgrade soo much to come to LU. Hicks was a waterboy at VT and im not talking about Bobby Boucher

Get your facts straight troyboy

Jennings lit up Coastal for 172 yards on 21 carries and 3 touchdowns.

Orr wasn't running away from anyone last year. His yards per carry dropped to 3.7 and they started playing Kenny Lewis more as the season went on to try to get some big plays out of the tailback.

Additionally, the one dude's name is "Branden Ore" not Brendan and the other dude's name is Rashad not Rashard. I seem to remember you used to be all up in Jennings' goodies not too long ago, Troy. What's the matter? Did he not take you to the prom or something? You sure turned into an LU hater real fast.

Rashad is twice as strong and just as fast as Ore and finally started to come into his own this year. I'd much rather take a good, straight-forward kid in Rashad than Ore.

Ore stinks and doesn't deserve to pick up a football again for any college - he's lazy and we have jennings - enough said.

Moving on...

Rashad at Toledo (I understand the difference, but when TU coaches say theyve never seen an rb run like that ill use it), and besides, he runs a 4.4. Whats wrong with a guy benching 400 and running 4.4? Thats too slow for you? Please. Besides, Ore wouldnt make it half a season without getting in more trouble.

Troy - You have obviously never seen Jennings play! And don't forget VT was trying to get him to transfer there:) Ore is lazy, and inconsistent. Did he play better competition - sure - when he was playing, but I believe Jennings would have done better then he ever did. Lets see how many looks Jennings gets from the NFL compared to Ore.

How's this for bizarre? This is in Glenville State's conference, I believe.
Running back Branden Ore, recently dismissed by Virginia Tech, could find a home at West Liberty State College as early as today.
Ore, a rising senior, started 13 games for the Hokies last season and led the team in rushing with 992 yards and scored 10 touchdowns, but was recently dismissed by longtime head coach Frank Beamer for unspecified reasons.

Why West Liberty?

Ore is the cousin of Hilltoppers defensive back Darren Banks, a first-team All-America selection by D2football.com. Banks has 28 career interceptions and is reportedly drawing NFL looks.

Nothing official has been signed and West Liberty football coach Roger Waialae couldn’t comment on the situation, but multiple sources have indicated Ore is planning to be a member of the Hilltoppers’ backfield next season, splitting carries with Eddie Hills and others.
