Thank you to all of the students that went to Asheville last night. You guys were enthusiastic and loud from the start, even when we were down in the student gym before the game. We did every chant on the bus before we even got there. You were doing the "Alex" chant when he was shown on tv before the game. The second you guys stepped in the gym you started making noise. Before the game, we were right next to the locker room and did every chant we had to let the players know what they were coming out to. We stayed up the entire game, no matter what was going on.
One of the things that impressed me the most about all of you was that even at the end of the game, down more than ten points, you were still chanting and cheering for our guys. You knew that we couldn't come back, but you guys didn't stop doing your job until the game was over, and then even after that. Some of you stuck around after the game to tell the seniors thank you, and to tell the other players thank you, and that shows a lot about who you are and that you really support your team no matter the outcome.
As for the LUnatics: we've laid a great foundation. I'm the only one in the entire group that won't be a student in some sort next year. I'll hopefully be around, but this is on you guys now. Enjoy it, because it goes a lot faster than you think. I realized that on the bus ride home last night. Next year the group will grow even more, and we've got to live up to what we've created this year. The baseball team I help coach has a saying that "if you're not getting better, you're getting worse." All year we kept getting better and better, pulling in more kids each game to do things with us. It started with just one row of us standing at the beginning of the season and look what it grew to. It took football two years to really get things going. Next year's when we see this thing really take off. Don't take any of it for granted. Take every opportunity that you have to go to a game and go. The past three months once we started planning this and seeing it take off has made the two years before it completely worth it.
Last night after the game, I was thanked by multiple people who told us we did a great job. Jamie Hall said we were great. Jeff Barber and his wife both thanked us for what we did. Becki Falwell thanked us and told us great job. Coach Rocco told me that we sounded great on the radio and that you couldn't tell who was the home team. Coach McKay got on the bus with us and thanked us. He told us after the game we were part of the family. Tyler Baker, Alex McLean, Teejay Bannister, Justin Holland, and Anthony Smith all said thank you. We even had managers thank us. We've had tough times this year with different people, but those people thanking us after a game and telling us we made a difference makes it all worth it.
Thank you guys for a great year. It only gets better from here.
