.... Really what you're saying has nothing to do with anything. But I think you're trying to say that the size of our place doesn't matter because we don't fill it. Ignoring room for growth, you're right. But it'd be nice if a major even that includes 4 different schools had more than 1500 seats. If you're having to turn people away at the door. That is very bad.

No one will be turned away- you can go over to the Student Gym and watch it on ESPNU (without defrauding DirectTV!)- I wouldn't travel without tickets reserved though- you're not gonna find extra's down here.. and the 4 hour drive isn't much fun! How many of you talkers would actually travel- cause not many more than a hundred or so showed up when the tourney was in the Asheville Civic Center anyways.. Again- hot air I believe...

Can we focus on the game itself?? Or do all you guys just want to find belittling moments about our gym to concern yourself with- you should be concerned with the gym- not because of size, but because it's home! I'm betting we won't shoot under 35% in this game- plus we're pretty much healthy now..

Secondly, when the Big South Tournament was at Liberty in the mid/late 90's- because Liberty never made it to the final game- they always had to move as many fans over to the bench side of the arena- just so that the ESPN2 camera's could pick up what appeared to be a capacity arena- it was crap..

If I remember right it was in Vines 4 times in the 90's and LU was in the final two of the four and had huge crowds when they were. It seems as if the BS record for attendance was one of those years as well.

Plus in 94 when LU's men made the final in Charleston, SC somewhere around 3,000 people drove to the game. That was a final and this is a semi... so it is apples and oranges, but I wouldn't underestimate LU's fan base.

Point being that it isn't duely diligent to simply award it to a school that has the biggest arena.. When/if that team loses early the conference discovered that it was very bad for all the other games and the arena's (including the Vines Center) were no where near capacity.. Anyone watch a conference championship game where a ton of seats are empty?? Which looks better- honestly?? A small but packed out gym or a fantastically empty arena??

Only because of ESPN concerns at multiple venues is the semi's even at the #1 seeded teams home court- it would serve no home court advantage for UNCA to play at the Civic Center where we haven't played all year- that makes it a neutral site (I'm sure you'd all love that but.. seriously??) and why would we do that just to put some more $ in the BS conferences pocket?? So the viable solution seems to have ESPN air the semi's the way it is doing now- or say too bad for TV we need to promote the home court adavantage for the semi's at the highest remaining seeds- period.. talk to KK about all that

Do you guys talk about the game or what?? How are you gonna match up with Bryan Smithson now that he's recovered from the ankle injury- and Kenny didn't play at LU- what's up Flames??

You are correct, my friend!

It is true that ESPN in the past has had to move people around and carefully select camera angles to avoid shots of empty seats at BSC tourney finals. I've seen it not only at the Vines, but the N. Charleston Civic Center and the Roanoke Civic Center; even in Anderson SC, the first year LU was in the conference. It is also true that if the final is played at the Justice Center this year, they probably won't need to. That doesn't make it a good thing.

Playing there gives UNCA their best chance to win and I for one don't blame them for making that the priority.

Well for now we have the Justice Center, feel free to call it the DogPound!!

The New Kimmel Arena will have 3500 and be done 2009/2010- maybe then we'll be worthy of hosting the tourney- until then I guess we'll just have to keep winning the regular season.

What's funny about all of this is UNCA fans acting like that always sell out the Justice Center. Um, until this year, they've never sold it out regularly. They've barely gotten 1,000 people to come to their games. So what is going to happen next year when the majority of their starters leave and it's back to status quo middle of the pack or worse? That 3,500 seat gym is going to have the same problem as the bigger gyms in the conference as well. Except it will be a 3,500 place that only 1,000 or less come to.

This isn't the game thread This is the get upset about the funky Big South Tournament/Playoff system thread where money is king.

I believe that there are ways to reward the regular season but fans having to travel to potentially 3 different cities in 5 days doesn't seem the best way to me. Especially if the final ends up in a gym that would cause many people to be turned away.

Imagine if the 94 final was at CSU instead of N. Charleston... only a few hundred of the 3000 Liberty fans could have showed up. Once UNCA gets its arena and Coastal gets theirs then game on... until then it stinks for the fans outside of those cities if the final is there.

(I don't blame you for wanting it in your gym... I would too if I had that advantage... the conference just shouldn't allow this to happen.)

This coming from the mighty Eagles- on their website you had a ticket request form posted almost 2 weeks ago prior to winning this past Saturday?? I like the spirit of the form- but shouldn't you be the #1 seed before selling tickets to game's you're not hosting??

That sell out crowd for Senior Night and Homecoming sure got their monies worth Saturday.. it was ahhhh-mazing to see and hear how very very quiet a nice big, fantastic arena can be- thank you!!

Also, at 2772 average you don't average even half your capacity down there either- a little more than Liberty though.. I think 3500 is a nice happy medium.. FYI- back in the 1997 & 1998 seasons we sold out all those games too- it's not exactly rocket science to say that winning teams put butts in the seats for any sport and almost any team- that being said after all the success you guys have enjoyed at Winthrop- how come Winthrop can only sell out Homecoming games?? Curious..

Basketball has games sometimes 3 days a week on who knows what days. I'm not ever expecting a sell out. However, having adequate seating capacity for a championship game on a saturday afternoon is different.

You want to talk about the game? In Asheville, you guys had to shoot the lights out (61%) and rely on two crap technical fouls to win the game by four. Anyone who disagrees that the technical fouls were a joke either wasn't there or have no clue what they're talking about. Smithson's good, but even someone that good doesn't shoot 83% on a night very often. Add to that the fact that every touch foul with Kenny George was called and McLean got into foul trouble and you have the recipe for a win. The refs tomorrow night are going to allow more physical play and aren't going to call stupid technical fouls. Now if KJ pushes BJ Jenkins into a wall again, or runs his mouth all of the way down the floor again, then maybe that deserves a technical, but not the stuff that happened in Asheville last time.

As for the Justice Center, it's an absolute joke when we could only reserve 100 tickets for a semi-final game. Any of the four true arenas in this league would let a team reserve 500-1000 tickets for a semi-final. We had to scrape and make phone calls just to get 100. That's an embarrassment to the league.

Yes I was at the first game- your head coach was doing his best impression of an immature school kid.. first I've never seen a coach lose it in front of any crowd about any player talking a little trash.. most coaches would've sent a message through another player, but no- Ritchie (who was disciplined by the conference b/c of his actions) resulted in acting even less mature- I've honestly never seen a head coach at the D-1 level chase an opposing player down, it was quite unprofessional for the head coach to do that- & they didn't tech him up for that.. but then he kept running his mouth even after warning- you think the refs are kidding?

Your assistant coach just so you're aware crossed half court on the other technical foul, again to chase down a ref and KJ tlaking- he's not even supposed to leave the bench area and he was almost in UNCA's bench area- so what was uncalled for there?? The coaches know the rules- they have to pass the NCAA test every year.. So the lack of composure by the coaching staff brought both technicals up- you could say that your coaches cost you that game, because your players played very well that night

If you're going to quote me- follow your moderators advice and put quotes around what I said- don't chop it off and add your own words StuporJon.. I said "most coaches would've" - "would've" said that- it's still no excuse to cross halfcourt by the assitant- and if I need to upload the video of it I can to refresh you memory- the BSC found fault after the game- so take you biased opinion and comment intelligently- not emotionally- unless you just can't stand it.. besides what did big bad KJ say that was more important than composing yourself to win the game?? He's certainly no MJ but there's many ways to beat an opponent who is not mentally tough..
