The biggest hurdle we face right now is our conference affiliation. With few exceptions, the conference plays at the lowest level of division 1 and all potential recruits know that before coming here. Hopefully we can get the point where we "outgrow" the conference and we are certainly on the verge of doing so and then join a more conpetitive conference which would push recruiting up a notch as well as getting more qualified coaching and getting them to stay here. We have had sports that do get recognized such as womens hoops, and track in a major poll but for the most part we are on the outside looking in.

I'm thinking schools like Montana, Utah, Colorado, any mountain school......I'll personally take them out one by one

Why not? BYU is that way for Mormons.

They are in the ACC.

Track was #7 at one point this year. Outdoor, they have a good shot at placing top 10 at nationals, if not top 5.

Def. Individual sports like Wrestling, Track, etc... have MUCH better chances of cracking top 25 or top 10. I think we will know more about the wrestling team in 3 or 4 years.

Being a Christian university can both help and harm our talent pool. On one hand, smaller talent pool do to the number of top athletes that aren't christians and don't want to go to a christian university. On the other hand, it's a big drawing power for top Christian athletes.

One thing we definitely need to do is get out of the big south... ASAP!

Where?

By the way, that photo I posted wasn't me. Just a random pic. I have a 7 1/2 pounder on the wall at my parent's house. Also landed a 10 lb 4 oz lunker back in the day with Jimmy Houston's Helicopter Lure. Couldn't have him mounted because I had just paid to have the previous one mounted. I was in high school & had no money. Still ticks me off to this day that I had to put him back.

i'm not sure what the official name of the lake is, a lot of people call it roxboro, some people call it frogsboro. its a small private lake in between yancyville and hyco lake.

it was about 9 lbs. i put it back b/c i can't afford to mount it. i caught it on a live minnow with a bobber off the dock. needless to say i was quite surprised

dang, thats a big fish. my problem is i don't want to have to buy a license in 2 different states, even though i probably will in the next few months anyway.
I don't really have anyone to go with up here, and i don't have my fishing stuff because i have no room for it in the dorm. once i move off this summer i'll bring my stuff though, and then the fish in virginia will fear me!

JDUB and blwall, we need to get up and go fishing.

I've caught a couple monsters.

19.5" smallie at my grandpa's when i was in 8th grade.
an 8, a 7, 4 6's and a ton of 5's at kamp in MO over the couple summers i worked there.
I caught 113 my last summer. (50 days)

Got a pic of the 8 somewhere around here. 26.5"
Inhaled a 8" red berkely power worm texas rigged that i swam by a dead tree.
there were three of us in the canoe (about 500 lbs) and that bad boy towed us about 30 yds and went directly under the middle of the canoe, almost went in after it, but I managed to get it. The 30 of us caught 30 that night, none of which were under 2 lbs. Def. one of my best kamp memories.

Just let me know when & where. If you have a boat....that's even better.

By the way, my lure of choice is the 7.5 inch Culprit Red Shad....Texas or Carolina rigged.

I've got a 12 or 14 ft. jon boat. flat bottom. really nice for small lakes and ponds (by small lakes, i mean 10-20 acres, etc...)

I throw worms a lot. Spinnerbaits past cover or to cover a lot of water fast. Crankbaits on occasion, depending on depth, cover (i.e.. submerged stumps).

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of public fishing area (Briery Creek excluded). I prefer the small, private farm ponds. I'm getting my license next week, so let me know.
