Just as dumb when everyone told us about the other 1A transfer like Redd, Jennings, Hicks, Pinigis, Duke, Greenbaum, Lloyd, Ausberry...should I go on?

If Sewell does come to LU, it would be big. You all who say Jameel is not that great of a quarterback must not know what he brings to the table. While he may not have the best stats such as passing yards and touchdowns, he has the intangibles. He is a leader, just look at all those close games they won this year. Anyways, all these transfers may never come to fruition so calm down and wait.

2nd only to Chris Long on that "D" line. He has come a long way since his 1st year. He can totally dominate a line. I've seen him blow through many a double team!
At our level there would be some bad pain! He's a very athletic beast!

until it's true i will not get too excited, but as a long time UVA fan and season ticket holder...thought i would throw that in since knuckle said he has worked every game that sewell has been there  sewell is inconsistent....but as 703 said the intangibles and leadership he brings is a plus. there have been some games that he has been simply brilliant and he is so athletic, i really feel like he can dominate at this level. plus he only threw to tight ends last year. he did not have a solid deep threat this past season. fitz is a beast. chris long even said that fitz was way ahead of him at that stage of his career last season. this would certainly be a real coup for LU if it does happen, and will certainly make for an interesting camp.

I just talked to one of my insiders and they said he will no longer be able to play for UVa due to grades (which confirms what some on the board have already said and told me) although said it has been between Richmond and LU so they were not surprised if he chose LU

If thats the case i just can't see how he could meet Richmonds with academics unless they are just willing to basically make an exception. There is no way by fall if he can't meet UVAs standards he is gonna take enough classes to meet Richmonds, i just can't see how that would be possible?? But if someone else knows more than me, please help me understand.......

I'd be really surprised if he went to Richmond for the following reasons, (1) I'd be surprised if he were Academically eligible and (2) I'd think he'd want to go to a school that may have a more immediate need for a QB. Eric Ward has been solid for the Spiders since starting in 2006 (and also earning A10 Rookie of the year honers) and comes into the 2008 season as a Redshirt Junior. Oh, and we can forget the fact that the Spiders have come off of a winning season as CAA Champions. If Jameel were to go to UR, he's gotta go HARD and will need to fight for that starting (or back-up) position, especially since he's missing spring practice.

As for Liberty, Sewell would have to come in and work just as hard to get snaps. Brock is coming into his senior year after a historical season for the Flames, and being that Landis got quite a few snaps last season, I'm sure he's going to be working really hard to keep his spot as the back-up with Brown coming in HUNGRY to get some playing time.

I did hear that Sewell was talking to NC State, but IMO it wouldn't be in his best interest to go there either, since he'll only have 1 year of eligibility, instead of the 2 years he could have at a FCS school.

He went through the appeals process which carried into the spring semester since he wanted to stay at UVa so badly. By the time he was finally given an answer, it was too late to enroll for the spring semester anywhere else.

So he will have to enroll somewhere in the summer in order to meet the NCAA academic guidelines for eligibility in the fall. If that occurs, it is my understanding that he would have two years of eligibility at LU beginning with this fall. But if you remember the Redd situation, eligibility is not always a given in a transfer.

I don't think any of us can truly understand the type of impact having these two (and possibly another one or two) calibre players come into our program. It wasn't that long ago that JMU won a national championship under similar circumstances.

As 703 stated, this is far from a done deal for either player. Until one of them is enrolled in classes I am going to be very hesitant in this situation.

I'm gonna go ahead and go the route of assuming they'll be here next year and then be devistated if I find out otherwise.

i think swissmilitant makes the best point of this whole thread. it's amazing to see how many here are downright giddy about just the possibility of adding a couple of guys who were let go elsewhere b/c they couldn't keep up their end of the "student athlete agreement".

someone earlier stated that if there are academic issues, then these guys certainly need not apply at richmond. they should just come on down to lu. am i reading this right?

although i guess it makes sense that only 'outsiders' would interpret this situation as such.

Coastal would take these players. They're eligible by NCAA standards but not by UVA standards. It's not like these kids aren't making the grades to play. They're just not making the grades to play at UVA.

that's acutally a terrible point. You would give your right arm for either one of these guys as coastal. LU isn't known as some Ivy League school or something. I'd hate to hear that some player isn't earning his grades in class at LU, but if he wants to use us to get his grades back up (through hard work obviously). I'll gladly use him to dominate in football.

maybe coastal would.....and it's interesting to see you jump on the defensive right away. i believe i've understood you in the past to not be all that happy about the transfer u thing.

the difference is that coastal has yet to do anything of the sort.

the only "big school" transfers ccu has had have been b/c of lack of playing time.

i would not give my right arm.....i realize that coastal isn't an ivy league school either. we've been known as the polar opposite in the past in fact. thankfully that is continually changing.

that being said, i don't like the idea of taking in guys who couldn't hack it elsewhere. i don't think that makes me wrong or you wrong. it's only a matter of preference. if it were happening at coastal...sure i'd accept it....i'd have to. but it wouldn't change the fact that i wouldn't be happy about it.

I'm not defensive about it. I fully support whatever Coach Rocco decides to do. It's not like these kids that are being talked about aren't doing anything school wise. UVA is hard for anyone academically, much less an athlete. These kids aren't kids with "academic issues." They're kids with "UVA standards issues."
