SJ,

I actually meant to delete my previous post sooner. I reconsidered what you said. As much as I would want to hit the kid over the head with the stick in my eye, Jerry Jr's approach is much better. If the Radford guy sees we can "love him" in a Christian way, in the future maybe his judgement will change.

It really doesn't make any difference if he has those type of shirts for other teams. I find the shirt equally distasteful. I know that has nothing to do with whether he is a nice guy or not. I'm sure he's nice enough to talk too. He's just a "lost soul," who is spiritually blind and doesn't understand. He needs salvation.

I would think the same of anyone who wore that shirt. It says something about your character.

Try wearing a shirt like that when you go for a professional job interview following graduation, and see if you get judged.

Just re-read Lang's article and wondered if the last line was simply an objective statement of absolute fact or rather a little dig at the RD era:
LU has lost its last three Big South tournament quarterfinal games.

If it were one of us yahoos I would strongly suspect the latter, but in Lang's case I think it was pretty much just a statement of fact.

Statement of fact...to add more fact, two of those three quarterfinals were at home.

Chris is completely unbiased in his reporting of Liberty.

I agree SJ. Lang seems to stay above the fray as it should be. I have enjoyed his coverage.

This wasn't a professional job interview. I doubt he'd paint his face for a job interview either.

I think Super is implying that he won't be wearing his white Alumi shorts and flip flops to his next job interview. :nono

Call it judgmental all you want, Jon. But wearing a shirt like that in a public forum says plenty about his character, or lack thereof. When you grow up and have children who have to read stuff like that and ask questions, maybe your opinion of it will change.

As for Jerry Jr.'s opinion of it, I highly doubt he was enthused about it. His approach was, of course, the right one. His dad, although not happy inside, would have probably reacted similarly. But it still doesn't make it okay to wear things of that nature in public.

And trust me, believe it or not from what I'm saying above, I'm hardly the judgmental type. Scar knows me better than anyone on this board. But too far is too far, no matter what school they're talking about, not just Liberty. It's classless and immature.

It's a college kid being a college kid. I think it shows your uptightness and judgmentalness just as much as it shows his character and maturity.

The thing that bothers me the most is that you're judging a kid and degrading him simply because of what he wore without even trying to get to know him or trying to talk to him. Jerry Jr and Becki may not have liked it, but they talked to him and treated him just like any other person unlike you guys on here who are already forming an opinion about him before even speaking to him.

You can say the shirt is wrong. You can say the it shouldn't be accepted and that you feel he should've been forced to change shirts. However, to degrade the kid is just wrong.

You got that right.

LOL - seriously, bro, you know nothing if you think I'm uptight.

I'm glad Jerry Jr. reacted the way he did. He was in the right. But it still doesn't change the fact that wearing a shirt like that in public is classless. Period! Not just this kid, ANYONE wearing it in public is classless.

SJ, I don't agree with you on this one. To wear a shirt like that anywhere in public, regardless of the school targeted, is not right. I know it is done in a lot of places, but it is out of place in public. Now degrading the guy in public does no one any good and should try to be avoided, but it is still a classless thing to be wearing, therefore it takes a classless person to wear it. IMHO of course. :D

I don't mean to degrade this guy, personally, because obviously I don't know him. It's not just him, it's "fans" everywhere these days. It's getting to the point that you can't take your wife and/or kids to a public sporting event for people acting like morons. Everywhere.

I'm sorry, I can't excuse classless behavior just because it's a "college kid being a college kid." People obviously know wearing stuff like that is offensive or why else would they wear it? College "kids" are old enough to know when they're being confrontational just by wearing something like that.

agreed.

It was awesome to see the game on MASN. I didn't realize how bad the refs were.

And that guy Martin was playing really dirty and he seemed like he didn't care.

I love how even Christians are tossing around the word judgmental now.

It's pretty funny.

That's the statement I disagree with. I say things at times to make me look like a real jerk, but I don't think anyone that truly knows me would say that I'm a jerk. In the same way, that kid has class. He came over and talked to us about certain issues so that things didn't get out of control. I didn't hear him say a cuss word the entire night. Criticize the action, but don't criticize the kid.

I was standing right next to him (the guy from Radford) almost the entire game. he said some words which I wont repeat and he got a talking to from one of the game ops people for it. He did handle himself very well when the guy talked to him about dropping some words which were not allowed and making some statements which really were not very clean in nature.

You just proved yourself that he has class. He said things that were acceptable at his school. However, when he was approached about those things and asked not to say them, he respected the people enough to obey what they said and didn't do the things he was asked not to anymore.

I never said he didn't. Did I like his shirt...no. But I just wanted to offer that point because I spent the whole game next to him and one of his friends (I did get some nasty looks from a couple of Radford kids when I was trying to hype up the LU folks behind them...)

I'm trying to defend a kid from being criticized in a way that he should, and Bryan starts taking shots at me. Yea, that's great.
