had a buddy of mine come up to me the other day and mention that he was a little concerned with some things:

1.) he said he had seen the LUnatics and others out eating more than once, and someone at the table was drinking alcohol. he went on to say that whether or not the person drinking was of age, there were a number of underage, LU students sitting at the table with him.

2.) after coming to a few games, he had heard some of the LUnatics and other students using profanity among themselves.

3.) a number of people had mentioned to him that some of the comments were taken too far at basketball games and in public (by the LUnatics and others).

NOW, i certainly am not pointing fingers. him confronting me about this stuff just caught me off guard, and got me thinking. i haven't used profanity at a basketball game, but i'm sure i've gone too far more than once.

i figured his bringing up these things might make for interesting conversation on here. any comments?

I might as well keep going as long as I'm typing

True. But that says something more about the individual than the LUnatics. Some people are like that. Pretty sure I know who he heard and I don't even sit with you guys at games.

This is the same old same old. Did he hear someone say "shut up"? Maybe somebody did take it too far, but it's tough to take that seriously after crying wolf for the past 8 years

The people behind us say things worse than we do. There's an RA behind us every game yelling that the refs suck and this sucks and that sucks, etc.

There have been two times when people have drank when we were out eating. One was at BWW and the person was an alumni. The second was Tuesday night at Applebee's and the people drinking were alumni, not students.

As for the language, I've heard some people say some things, and I've said some things myself. I'm not going to deny that. I won't say it was right either. However, we don't yell those things out. I'm not condoning what the people may have said to each other, but a conversation between two people represents those people, not the group. What is chanted and said together to the players/coaches on the floor is what represents the group.

If the guy has a problem with what people do, he should confront them personally, not talk about them to their friends. He apparently follows us around enough that it wouldn't be a problem for him to find us.

bww was only mentioned to me.

nothing was said about the people sitting behind us.

he was younger, so i'm sure he was afraid to confront any of the older egos.

i was happy he said something to me. i'm to blame as much as anyone else for saying things that probably shouldn't be said.

before anyone gets too defensive... only reason i bring this up is because i'm part of the LUnatics, and i wouldn't want something as great as this club to develop any kind of bad reputation... which is why the fact someone confronted me about it concerned me.

It just bugs me when people say things when they don't know the whole story. I'm sure you're not the first person this kid has said anything to.

We're going to have a bad reputation with people at Liberty who think we shouldn't say anything more than "Go Team" no matter what. Worrying about that isn't worth it. The people who know us, who know what we do at games, who know how we act all know that any type of rumor isn't true.

luconn, i agree that it says more about the individual. the guys in the club are my best friends. if they were doing lines of cocaine or starring in pornos, i wouldn't hang with them (unless sj was starring in a porno... that would be REALLY funny). they're all really good guys.

i don't know off the top of my head any instance that something horrible, vulgar and out of line was said... but i'm sure there's been a time or two someone's said something. no blame is to be put on the club. i'll agree with that.

HAHAHA I almost missed that!

BG I dunno what to think, on one hand LU's greatest leaders would sit at the bar with people while eating dinner by himself...now of course he wouldnt touch a drop but he wouldnt shy himself away from it (avoiding being in a bubble)

But if you're an Alum and you're sitting at a table with current students I wouldnt get a drink...I mean it's just a another hour till you'll be home and I'm sure you have something in the fridge...no use putting others in that situation where they have to explain things...I'd love to tell everyone to just mind your own business but bottom line is perception is very important b/c it doesnt spread that HMO had one drink it would be that HMO was out drinking which is completely different

Ahh to each their own :D 8)

next time we go to BWW I'm gonna order an apple-tini and set it by the closest student. People will be going up to Bryson asking, "dude, what's up with the homo alcoholic in the LUnatics?"

haha!! yeah an alum should probably not drink around students in public. it causes way to much crap, and some just like to lump a whole group as wrong instead of getting the real story.

On a side note... I havent said anything on this yet, but Bryson tell your friends that last time I checked we are all adults and if they dont like what comes out of anyone's mouth they can confront them about it LIKE AN ADULT. But let me tell you why they say that to you because they know that if they walked up to one of us and said "I dont think you should talk like that" or "Youre an alum why are you drinking a beer?" they will get a look as if they are retarded and told right back, "Last time I checked Im an adult and I can do whatever I want, but thanks anyway DAD"

If they say it to you it just gets talked about and laughed at.

In this rant, Im not mad at you Bryson if it comes off that way, I know its not you buddy! haha

Um, i mean if they have a problem with alcohol being consumed by adults who don't g to LU maybe they can ask Jesus why his first miracle was turning water into wine. Or maybe they can turn him in for Reps. That would go over well, right?

Or maybe they should spend more time worrying about their own problems instead of trying to create some for other people.

Besides, if they have a problem with the Furnace being a difficult place to play, and fans giving the other team a hard time, maybe they could just go to Pensacola Communist where there is no such thing as Christian liberty (or freedom in general) and people live and die by the law... Just a thought.

I mean, I know it's tough coming from the bubble into the real world, but it's kinda necessary to function in a little place called reality. I kinda feel bad for the guy, but maybe he'll grow out of it... :?:
