We lose a heartbreaker- after battling back to lead by 7 midway thru the 2nd half.

81-79 is the final, and you can pretty much thank Reggie Williams for beating us.

OLDFLAME pointed out the disparity in FTs- they were AWARDED 25 , we got 5. Yes, 5.

they converted 18, we made 3: thats the ballgame right there.

had the freakin' calls gone CLOSE to even- we'd have probably won by 5 or more.

oh well.

Bizarre ending (I turned it on right after the WU game to see the last 4 seconds). Officials in a tough spot there, I think they did about all they could by putting the clock down at 2.0 seconds...Not sure there was a better solution.

man, I agonize over these close losses. I hope I'm not reading to much into the last couple games, but it sure seems like we're sorta headed in the wrong direction here-

GOTTA get it together in time for the tourney. VMI isn't a HORRENDOUS loss, but that Longwood game still bothers me.

I don't think it helped us mentally, at ALL.

I am still wondering why they didn't go to Alex more often down the stretch. Seemed like a mismatch when he got the ball inside but continued to go for the outside shot. Our defense is horrible. All I can say for now.

My observations now that I'm home.
-The refs were aweful
-Our team decided the best way to play VMI was to just let them shoot without contention
-Our Offensive rebounding efforts were aweful (esp. with the 4 and 5 guard sets)
-Alex was very tentative (especially with 3 and 4 fouls)
-Again the refs were aweful - They called the picky fouls on us but not them. I agree with whoever said it's unbelievable to get hosed like that at home.
-I hate Sparky's spinning sign
-the LUnatics were loud and great!
-Pete Guillen was there
-My son loved the blimp
-I was about to buy gen admission when a dude handed me 2 tickets padded doner seats, YAY!
-The popcorn was very good
-Ritchie's post game interview was honest and fair. He is didgusted with the ease VMI scored and their FG % and our general lack of "D". He said he's not sure why!
-Not a great crowd, but after losing a lot lately not bad really.
-I was the loud annoying guy on the baptist side
-My son got a shirt
-That is all

Their defense in the 2nd half was stifling. That #22 was in Andersons face literally!
By the way one more observation. Shot selection is definitely a BIG weakness!

Our lack of depth is hurting us right now and I could see this coming. Too many minutes for the starters throughout the year eventully will catch up with you in the end and that is what is happening. Trying to come up with excuses. We definately have some good shooters but giving up too many easy uncontested baskets.

It's a tough loss coming this late, and we haven't played our best ball down the stretch, but a two point loss doesn't mean anything in terms of losing in the BS. The BS is a new season. I think this makes the Radford game even more important, and I still think the season is the best indicator of where you are, but what REALLY matters is the BS tourney, and there's nothing saying we cannot have a great run.

Is it just me, or do the refs seem to be worse this year than in previous years? I know that fans usually won't agree with every call, but even when I'm watching non-Winthrop games it seems like the refs are pretty bad.

I was just talking about the lack of depth with a friend of mine. If you look at the minutes these guys are pulling a LOT of minutes. Ace is playing something like 35 minutes in the last stretch...thats tough on a big man...but we just dont have many options

you think this is tough for yall imagine coaching these last few weeks...keep your head up RM your boys are coming soon

I gave away 3 tickets and kept one, but I don't think I gave them to Knuckle, unless he's an old guy dressed like a VMI alum. Whoever he was, he was so thankful that he offered to buy them from me.

Very tough loss, esp. after we beat them in their house. I don't understand the last play, trying to shoot from half court, instead of trying to throw it inside and hope for a foul with 2 second left.

I watched this one, I thought the last play should have been an attempted lob to Mclean, certainly not an inbound backcourt.

Anyways, the foul discrepancy was pretty bad (now you understand why WU was not thrilled by the davidson game), although it seemed like role reversal from usual VMI games---VMI attacked more and LU shot a ton of threes. That said, the 50/50's didn't go your way.

a foul wouldn't have helped cause our FT shooting isn't great, but something besides behind half court would have been nice.

there were 3 things that bothered me this game
#1 shot selection
#2 lack of defense and rebounding
#3 disproportionate number of fouls, although a lot of the calls people were yelling about were legit, there were a few terrible calls. one of the refs even said that he screwed up but couldn't take it back. i was hoping for a makeup after that, but we got screwed 2 more times in a row. im not throwing this game to the refs though, if 1 or 2 were better we would've won

I'll admit I cringed when I saw Rell shoot the 3...what in the world! He was open for a reason!

I was at this game. That last play just drove me crazy. Did anyone else notice, that was just about the same way the VMI game ended last year.

Last year...we had a couple of seconds...and we passed it in the backcourt to Blair for a wild three.

This year, we had a couple of seconds, and we passed it in the backcourt to TJ for a wild three.

To me I'd rather have the ball stolen trying to attempt a pass towards the basket...

Now I really hope we can pull out Radford for some momentum :)

What a terrible play for that last shot. The only thing we could have done worse is inbound it to McLean in the backcourt. What the heck were they doing that whole time while the refs were reviewing?
