Joe Pantaleo wrestles for Colonial Forge, the number one ranked team in VA, 8th nationally. At the Nazareth Invitational Wrestling tournament at the beginning of this season he beat PA All-stater Ohara and national champ, Joey Mazzi. He placed 7th at the Powerade and 4th at Beast. He was state champion last year at 125 lbs. and currently ranked first in the state at 130 lbs. Looks like a great get for us!!

I think he got 4th at Powerade and he wrestled a local kid I know Kenny Stank. And he lost 6-5. If he lost 6-5 to Stank he can wrestle because Stank is a for sure podium guy in PA states this year. Central Dauphin has 5-6 for sure locks for PA states this year and if you wrestle their kids good you have to be a stud.

Yea, Stevewalt, he wrestled Kenny Stank and lost 6-5 in the Powerade-but it was for 6th and 7th place according to the school's wrestling website. He also took 4th at the Super 32. Regardless, as you said, if he can hang with a PA state placer-he's good!

Thanks, I was confused! I couldn't find the actual brackets on the powerade website and couldn't tell what place he had wrestled for according to the consolation results. 4th place-even better pick up:)

Eagles' Pantaleo headed to Liberty

Date published: 1/29/2008

BY JUSTIN RICE

Liberty University's Christian foundation was nearly enough to sell Colonial Forge senior Joe Pantaleo.

The fifth-place finisher at 125 pounds in last year's Group AAA wrestling state championships has given a verbal commitment to the Flames. He'll receive a partial scholarship to wrestle for last year's NCAA East Region champions.

"I think it's a good fit for him," Colonial Forge coach Bill Swink said. "He really liked the coaches and he really liked the school."

Pantaleo also considered Virginia Tech, George Mason and Appalachian State.

"I like the atmosphere at Liberty," Pantaleo said. "I like that it's a Christian-based school. That's a big part of it.

"And I think the team is headed in the right direction."

Thanks to those that posted on Joe. He is really looking forward to being part of the LU program. This past weekend he won his second AAA (biggest schools) Virginia State Title (at 130lbs) and finished the season at 55-6. Given the schedule that Col. Forge wrestles, that's not a bad record.

And thanks to Joe for finding us as well.

Great job by the LU wrestlers at NCAAs- 5 wins compared to 1 last year ... the gap is quickly closing.

Joe Pantaleo: wrestler of the year
Date published: 3/28/2008

BY JIM McCONNELL

He didn't overwhelm opponents with power, blind them with speed or awe them with a vast array of fancy moves.

So how did an average Joe accomplish something extraordinary?

If you ask Colonial Forge High School senior Joe Pantaleo, a two-time Group AAA state wrestling champion and The Free Lance-Star's 2008 All-Area wrestler of the year, it was a fairly uncomplicated formula.

"I found out it just takes a lot of hard work," Pantaleo said earlier this week.

Building an elite-level wrestler isn't really that simple, of course. In such a brutal, physically demanding sport, the recipe for success usually requires equal quantities of several key ingredients.

In Pantaleo's case, it started with

A CUP OF HUMILITY

Pantaleo's earliest wrestling lessons came from his father, Dan, formerly an assistant coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.

As Dan Pantaleo guided his son through the ranks ...

I look forward to watching him continue his career at Liberty. Great kid who I have watched really develop over the last four years.

Thanks for the welcome. I am a big fan of what Coach Castro is doing. The progress in such a short time has been amazing (numerous national qualifiers, quality recruits in state and abroad and most impressively that number 3 Team Academic Ranking).

STAFFORD — Joe Pantaleo admits that he loves Goldfish crackers, a small, orange snack that has little nutritional value. Pantaleo, a freshman wrestler at Liberty University in Lynchburg, also admits it can be a challenge to make weight at 125 pounds.

But the Colonial Forge High School graduate has reconciled his love of snacks with making his weight limit.

“I love Goldfish. It is the snack that smiles back,” he said. “The way I see it I can eat what I want as long as I work hard to get it off.”

But Pantaleo, a two-time state champion at Colonial Forge, quickly noted he does not rush out to a fast-food restaurant when the urge strikes.

His dedication has paid off in his first year at the Division I college level as Pantaleo won 11 of his first 18 matches for the Flames.
