This kid who is the coach's son converted from WR to QB this past season as he replaced UVa's Peter Lalich as starting QB for his high school. He's an all-around athlete whose dad was a punter for VT and the Packers.

Here was a Rivals story on him early in the 2007 season ...
VirginiaPreps.com wrote:Junior QB Renner continues strong scoring pace

Bryn Renner is a multitalented athlete who plays football, basketball and baseball. Renner, who is a junior this season and the Spartans' starting quarterback, is already getting looks from several top football colleges, including Notre Dame and Penn State.
THE 17-year-old Renner, whose birthday is in January, has been playing football since he was 5.

"I liked it so much, putting on the pads and being able to hit people," he joked. Through the years, he started playing other sports, but football was his passion. A lifelong Springfield native, Renner has become fond of the area's closeness. "It's a true community, and everyone kind of knows each other," Renner said.

Bryn Renner was born with football genes as his father, Spartans head coach Bill Renner, played football at Virginia Tech and had a stint professionally with the Green Bay Packers. Bill Renner was pleased with his son's performance in his opening game. "He made some good, quick, decisions with the football," said Bill Renner. "Had we not thrown [three] interceptions, we would have put up 50 [points]."

A January story from the Washington Post ...
BOYS' BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK
Spartans' Renner Keeping Options Open

By B.J. Koubaroulis
Special to The Washington Post
Tuesday, January 15, 2008; Page E07

Even though he is leading the Washington area in scoring with 28.3 points per game, West Springfield junior Bryn Renner can't see a future in basketball.

But he hasn't ruled it out, either.

"It would be better for baseball and football to work out, but maybe basketball, too," said Renner, who ranked fifth among Washington area quarterbacks this fall with 2,749 yards passing and second in touchdown passes with 32.

Renner, an honorable mention All-Met at quarterback, said he is being recruited by Notre Dame, Penn State, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Maryland.

Also a shortstop for the Spartans' baseball team, Renner hit .333 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 13 stolen bases last spring, drawing interest from North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Maryland.

This is for the Class of 2009. And if a prospect this good wants to come to Liberty, we take him. Period.

the list as it is posted- incl the Blue Hens and LU- is quite interesting.

interesting to see who offers.

he' d likely be coming in as an "ATH" anyway, no?

Perhaps. But he has QB size and his numbers in rather legitimate VA high school competition would indicate he could throw for us. As you saw mentioned, he leads the DC area in scoring on the basketball court and is a major baseball prospect as well. As a result he would have to be classified as a very long shot at this stage. But the fact we are even being mentioned is a good thing.

If we could land this guy it would be huge. We need a big time QB. But we will have to see how this Brennan guy does. We need someone other than Brock Smith I don't think he is that great!

1st. Brennan isnt better than Smith at this moment. 2nd, Renner isnt coming until Smith is gone already. Brock is the QB and showed last year that he is and will be the guy to lead our offense this year.

Anyway welcome to the board!!

I will say that Brock had pretty good numbers but He just seems that if he gets in a tight situation he will somehow mess up. I know that Brennan won't play next year but I don't think we will go deep in the playoffs with Brock. If we make them next year which I think we will.

CCams good point. Brock Smith is an average qb at best, why not start a 6 foot 3 dual threat qb who has great potential. Liberty needs a new qb for their passing game.

I agree with Ccams about Brock. Just average ability wise and can't win the close games and against good competition. Brown and Brennan could be great if Coach Rocco gives them the opportunity.

Not sure about the playoffs as we could only afford 1 loss with that schedule we have. We could make the playoffs but I am not sure about how far we can go.

You guys are insane. Brock's a 2 year starter and this is his senior year. Unless Dan Marino finds some eligibility and signs with us, Brock's our guy. And even if Dan does, I still think he's riding the pine. He's a little too old.

Is it possible to clean up this thread? By which, I mean take out all the morons.

We've got two guys -- who have 8 posts between them and posted in this thread within 2 minutes of each other, hmmm -- who are seriously complaining about an all-conference QB being "just average" while Steve extols the virtues of two other guys who've never played, one of whom isn't even enrolled here yet.

Believe me, we've seen "average" QB's play here. Brock is so much better than average it's not even funny.

(I got your back, Auntie Ann.)

You are the biggest idiot I've ever seen. You never say anything positive, and are always starting stupid crap like this. You're just like checkmate and South Beach.

So the second leading scoring offense in the country isn't good enough for you?

Wow, tough crowd.

No, when a guy who never says anything positive about our program, ever, says stupid things that make absolutely no sense and anyone who watched a game in two years would disagree, I'm calling him an idiot. Sorry if the truth hurts, but that's the truth.

I have personally talked to Bryn about possible future college choices and he is interested in playing at smaller schools that is why Delaware and LU are on that list.
