That's not true.

He's always been firmly pro-life, favored less government spending, and supports a strong military.

He's had more moderate views on amnesty, gun control, and stem cell research, but he seems to be coming around. He knows what he needs to do in order to rally the base, and he seems to be on the right road toward doing that.

Bush's issue is he surrounded himself with so many of his daddy's people, that he became a puppet...especially to the VP. I firmly believe that....and it is what has caused many of the issues of the past 8 years.

I did find a few areas I agreed with McCain on that I was suprised about. Here are just of the areas that don't compute for me:
Supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research. (May 2007)
Abortion OK if raped; and no testing for rape. (Jan 2000)
Wants Roe vs. Wade made irrelevant, but would not repeal it. (Aug 1999)
Voted NO on drilling ANWR on national security grounds. (Apr 2002)
Voted YES on favoring 1997 McCain-Feingold overhaul of campaign finance. (Oct 1997)
Give individuals $2500 refundable tax credits for healthcare. (Oct 2007)
Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security. (May 2006)
Voted YES on giving Guest Workers a path to citizenship. (May 2006)
Absent from Values Voter Presidential Debate. (Sep 2007)
We need a simpler, fairer tax code, but not FairTax. (Nov 2007)
Tax system is fair; wealthy pay bulk of taxes. (Oct 2007)
Won't sign no-tax pledge; focus on cutting spending. (Sep 2007)

I am asking that, just not liking my answer.

You're never going to get someone who you 100% agree with. I'd rather take my chances with McCain than Billary or Hosebomma. Like someone said before, he will just be a one term guy. Sitting out would be a vote for the Dems.

...not the best analogy, because both will kill you...but I understand your dilemma. Me? I was never that choosy with women so I'm not choosy when the alternatives are MrsSatan and Obama.

My problem with the GOP is not George W. Bush. I think he has done a good job. My problem is with the House and Senate. The president doesn't create law. He doesn't write legislation. The republicans in the House and Senate blew it. I think they tried to play the "job security" game by not rocking the boat. They had a lead and played nice with their enemy (went into a prevent defense WAY too early). Now one of them wants to be president. He has a history (voting and verbal) of not being a true conservative and being too close to liberal thinking individuals. I don't think I will vote for McCain.

Even though the Republican House and Senate has let conservatives down by not pushing through judges and conservative legislation, my opinion is to vote 3rd party for president and vote republican on the House and Senate races. I think conservatives can send a real message to these men and women that they will not put up with moderate/liberal people claiming to be conservatives. When the numbers show that the Republican House and Senate votes are much more than the GOP presidential candidate, perhaps they will fear for their own jobs next election. Just a thought.

I'd hardly consider Bush to be a "puppet" or surrounded with daddy's people. If you look at Bush's big three domestic issues outside of taxes -- namely, medicare reform, immigration, and education --- his views were in LOCKSTEP with Ted Kennedy's.
