I'm dying to know where you got that quote, wall. I'm guessing it had this guy's picture attached to it.

yeah, that's what a lot of folks say, but I rely on the FDA. There have been no findings of a toxic affect of sucralose in over 110 studies on humans and animals, so the FDA has deemed it safe for human consumption. I believe that is why there are a lot of products out there that are now sweetened with splenda, instead of aspartame, which actually carries a warning on its label because there have been some adverse reactions to the phenylalanine it contains among people who have the genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU).

As pertaining to food, if God made it, eat it. If man made it, don't eat it.

Sure, if you're dumping massive doses directly into your veins. Any nutritionist will tell you that, short of cyanide and snake venom, regular sugar is pretty much the most unhealthy substance on earth.
If your talking about natural sugar that is not the case.

I wouldn't rely on those guys for anything. How many "safe" things have been put out on the market only to be pulled back months on years later because horrid side effects were found.

I've already gone through this whole conversation with my parents. Allow me to hit the high points:
  • Trudeau's criminal conviction for credit card fraud and larceny charges
Trudeau's on-going battles with the SEC and Federal Trade Commission who also accuse him of fraud
Trudeau's complete lack of medical or research training
Trudeau's use of false endorsements to market his products
Basically, the guy is a con man who makes his money off of conspiracy theories and people who just don't think things through. 20/20 did an interview with this guy last year and John Stossel completely lit him up. The FTC no longer allows Trudeau to sell anything other than his books and that's only b/c Trudeau pled the 1st Amendment saying that his books are for "entertainment purposes" only.

Umm true, I guess I rely moreso on them than some of the other books written by doctors b/c I've worked in the Clinical Research environment, so I know how much time goes into researching a substance before it is approved and sent to the marketplace. Of course, you wont know a lot of the long-term side effects that may be present say 20 years down the road, but that's why they continue to monitor stuff even after it hits the markets--and if there's a problem, it's taken off the market.

Then you would have guessed wrong. I got that quote from a medical doctor, not an author.

Like this:
A pair of entrepreneurs tried unsuccessfully to create a natural sweetener based on a West African berry called Synsepalum Dulcificum, for instance.

However, in 1974 the FDA ruled that their natural product was a food additive that needed years of testing before it could be used commercially. Now here’s the kicker: that very same year, the FDA approved the dangerous artificial sweetener aspartame.
Or this:
In 1989, the FDA received over 4,000 complaints from people who described adverse reactions. Because the FDA conveniently lists aspartame as a "food additive", it removes the legal requirement for adverse effect reporting to any Federal agency and the necessity for safety monitoring processes. Research also indicates that aspartame, when combined with glutamine products (such as MSG, widely used in foods) increase the likelihood of brain damage occurring in children.
Once more:

Fraudulent Claims of Aspartame as a "Diet Aid"
Interestingly, even the American Cancer Society confirmed that users of artificial sweeteners gained more weight than those who didn't use the products, further undermining the supposed "purpose" for the existence of aspartame in the food.

The major selling point of aspartame is as a diet aid, and it has been demonstrated that the use of this product actually causes people to consume more food. Normally, when a significant quantity of carbohydrate are consumed, serotonin levels rise in the brain. This is manifested as a relaxed feeling after a meal. When aspartame is ingested with carbohydrates, such as having a sandwich with a diet drink, aspartame causes the brain to cease production of serotonin, meaning that the feeling of having had enough never materializes. You then eat more foods, many containing aspartame, and the cycle continues. Monsanto's profit from its NutraSweet Division was $993 million in 1990.

I'm not talking about any products they push. Just referring to the general diet.

And this whole thing is in reference to the fact that natural sugar has to be better for your body than chemically altered sweeteners. That's all I'm getting at.
