I'm saying Davidson by double digits. Sorry Winthrop, if this were last year I'd say you had a shot, but this ain't last year.

Wow, ESPN2. That's a high profile game.

I'm very much looking forward to all of the lame Curry vs WU comparisons we'll no doubt make in the future.

Last year we would have killed them. This year it should be a close game.

I think VCU and GMU might have a problem with that because, you know, Virginia is the south and all.

UAB and Charlotte in the late 90's/early 00's might say something as well.

Same with CofC in the late 90's.

Yea, Winthrop's the best ever. Woo boy. No one can touch them.

Unless of course another flu bug strikes since that is the only way this overpowering Eagles squad could lose.

I'm looking forward to this game, Winthrop definitely got a good matchup and I'm surprised they got someone with such a high RPI. I'll predict Davidson, but you never know when someone has to play on the road. You know the coliseum will be jacked.

Yeah, I'm sure VCU, GMU, Asheville, Greensboro, Charlotte, Wilmington, and Ark-Little Rock don't have anything to say about that.

Heck, even High Point, who you lost to, has something to say about that.

High Point and Asheville are on the list because they beat WU.

I should have put in Mt. St. Mary's, but they aren't from the South.

HPU and UNCA beat them, but can't be considered successful.

WU has been the most successful mid major program in the South in recent memory. UAB and Charlotte aren't really mid majors until recently---maybe, although the A-10 is still a big budget conference and usually isn't grouped in. None of the VA teams have been consistent enough.

You didn't say consistent. You said successful. I'd take GMU or VCU's success in the tournament over your one and done for seven years any day of the week.

What he said...NONE of those teams have the 9-10 year track record of Winthrop...
...I think someone has spiked Lefty's KoolAide.

We have to realize who we're dealing with here... Realist. He is stuck so far up Winthrop's butt he can't see straight.

Had he called Winthrop consistent in his original post, I wouldn't have complained. He said successful. I'm sorry, but winning one of the worst conference in America for a long span of time and then losing in the tournament is nowhere near as successful as a Final Four run or beating Duke in the tournament or anything like that.

:exactly

That's what I am saying. The dominance of the Big South is consistent and dominant, but not successful on a tournament national level.

Successful would be like, Zaga, VCU, GMU, etc.

Or Women's BBall at LU.

Not WU, losing in the first round, that makes them as "successful" as Texas A&M Corpus Christie.

I never said UAB. :P

and Charlotte is a mid-major. Mid-Majors, by definition, are non-BCS conferences, with a few exceptions (Memphis being a notable one). Winthrop, on the other hand, should be considered a "Low-Major", because of the conference.

And you lost to Mt. St. Mary's :P.

Yes it is, consistency gets your name on the map and Winthrop beat Notre Dame, a tougher team than Duke last year as well. GMU had a great run one year but hasn't been consistent at all.

Lefty...stop the slurping. You make WU's point by comparing them to our women's team. They've won exactly TWO tournament games in the same time span as WU's run. And our women have been dominant in one of the worst conferences in American, as well.

Don't let your hatred for Winthrop cloud your judgement.

The funny thing here is that if Liberty (the men, not the women) had the same success as Winthrop over the past 9 years then most of the posters on this site would feel the same way as Realist. Some of you still talk about the good ol' year of '04. :)

Some of you have a hatred for Winthrop that blinds you. Does UNCA have a great team this year? It sure as heck looks like it. Did the flu keep Winthrop from winning this past Saturday? Maybe, maybe not. To think that it didn't play a role in how much UNCA won by is somewhat foolish. That's like saying VMI not having Reggie didn't play a role in how much Winthrop beat them by. As for Winthrop fans having 'excuses' after losses... I've never seen a message board where, after a loss, everyone on the board says, "Wow... we just got our butts handed to us. I mean, we played our best game and we just didn't stand a chance". People usually say, "If we do ____ better, we'll beat them next time..." or "Wait until they come to our place. We'll beat them here...". Now, I know the good people here on flamefans would never say any of that  , but you can see it on just about any other board (except CSU... I don't think anyone posts there anymore).

Too late. My hatred for every other team in the Big South has clearly destroyed my judgement.

However, I don't think I am as far off my rocker as you think. The LU Lady Flames reference was a mistake because I am not an LU historian and had no idea how many games in the tourney they had won. I just assumed they had won a couple more.

The rest of my point still stands.
