He verballed to us. He'll definitely have to redshirt a year to rehab, but with our facilities should make a complete recovery.

Whoever said 6 months for this injury is way off. 6 months maybe for walking around, but definately not for playing football. It would be great if he could practice with the team on a limited basis next year while rehabbing, so he could be prepared for 09 to help fill the gap we will have when Dugan graduates.

If I remember correctly this is the same injury Culpeper had, and also Anthony Poindexter, who never did fully recover.

Hi. Its me, the one who said six months. and as of now the doctor is releasing him in Feb. and Jackson might even try to wrestle some his senior year as he is the defending state champ. Maybe six months isn't a NORMAL recovery, but that is the target for his release, Feb.

The rehab must be coming along nicely ...
Bees heavyweight finally gets his forfeit

Brookville senior heavyweight wrestler Ryan Jackson, the defending Group AA state champion who suffered a severe knee injury during the football season, is trying to rehabilitate in time for the postseason. In Wednesday night's 52-21 triumph at Liberty, he picked up the forfeit he needed to be eligible when the Bees try to capture their 40th straight Seminole District tournament title.

Thanks for the update. Will Ryan be wrestling for Coach Castro as well as football?

It isn't totally out of the question. It would be tough to do both, but not impossible. No final decisions have been made, and I don't think any will be made until the rehab/healing process is "completed" (i.e. he is 100% and cleared to compete).

I know traditionally a number of the Big 12 schools have linemen pulling double duty. Thanks for the clarification.

Fantastic .. and I guess that means he is on target for football training camp this summer as well.

Congrats to Ryan on the victory as well.

I would say that if he can wrestle he can play football. Think about all of the (legal) positions a wrestler gets into which put stress on the knee, and the flexibility and strength required. In addition, I believe wrestlers are more restricted in how heavy a brace they can wear due to the possibility of an opponent being injured by the brace itself. This is a remarkable recovery if the injury is as described.

It's his life, his future, and his free college education potentially at stake, but I wonder if it's wise, even if he is defending state champion. One could certainly argue the wisdom of laying off competition and continuing to focus on rehab til football training camp.

The injury is as described: torn ACL, torn MCL, torn meniscus-all repaired. He has been cleared by the doctor to wrestle and been told by LU coaches that as long as the doctor releases him they have no problem with him wrestling. His coaches (both national champtions during their careers at LU and head coach Don Shuler an olypmic alternate) are working with him on specific moves that will put less stress on the knee. Braces are a no-go (his doctor said that studies show no difference in preventing re-injury in braced and non-braced knees).

Thanks for the update on his recovery. It'd be great to defend his state crown.
