Owings Mills High star wrestler Tony Mack is flanked by his great-grandparents, Earl and Carrie Mack.

Before Owings Mills senior and defending state champion Tony Mack wrestled his first opponent, he grappled with a slew of serious issues in his life off the mat.

Those issues might have floored someone with less fortitude than Mack, whose mother, Kim Wright, was only 13 when he was born.

But he would have had much more of a difficult battle without his great- grandparents -- Carrie and Earl Mack -- who raised him and three younger siblings, Tenia, 16, Warren, 13 and Isaiah, 11.
