Dees comes up big in new Cajun role

There are going to be more important decisions made that will effect the life of David Dees. But as far as basketball is concerned, Robert Lee tied a bow around the career of his senior guard on Dec. 16, said thanks for the memories, and pointed toward a spot on UL's bench.

And, really, how many choices did Lee have?

The Cajuns were off to a 1-6 start this season and trailing by nine points at halftime of their Sun Belt Conference opener at UL-Monroe. So the decision was made - out with the old and in with the new.

Dees - the cover boy on the team's media guide, and a preseason all-conference pick - was benched in favor of freshmen Chris Gradnigo and Travis Bureau. His minutes melted from an average of more than 26 the first eight games to a total of 41 the next four combined.

After reading that, I have to admit I felt a little sympathy for the kid. It does seem as if he's matured a bit though. Good luck to him the rest of the way.

Lee is a pretty huge dirtball. He gives up on the season and decides to pretty much end Dees', a preseason all-conference pick, career a year early early so he can get some experience for next year, and then when Dees bails him out he says

"This was a true test of his character," Lee said. "David could have packed his bags and gone back to Ohio. For him to stick through the things he's been through says a lot about him."

The things he's been through?? You did that to him! I'm sure recruits are chomping at the bit to come play for that guy.

That's a very astute assessment, LUconn. Its one that lines up with everything I hear down here.

I'm sure David has plenty of regrets in how everything went down the past couple of years. I certainly still consider him part of the LU family. I'd love to see him finish his college career in strong fashion.

If im the AD at this school and i read these quotes from my coach......i think i give him the Hanky treatment....i just leave a pink slip on his desk because its not worth even talking about what a waste of money you are......

If you're a coach and packing it in after the first game of conference season (in a Sun Belt conference where a strong run gives them a shot, albeit a distant shot, at the NCAA tournament) than I agree, don't let the door hit ya on the rear on the way out.

it's sad he allowed those close to him to talk him into the biggest mistake of his life...the grass isnt always greener no matter what they tell you


and I agree with their coach...Dees came when they had nobody and bailed him out...now he does this to him....dirtbag
