I was looking at the pictures of it in the LJ and what stood out immediately to me was it didn't look like there would be room for more people. It's all very symmetrical. Wasn't his one request that the site have room enough for family? Other than that, it looks really nice.

I was on campus last week and noticed the flame was lit. I am still hoping they will work that into the football game/sporting events some way.

I like the way you are thinking, flameshaw. If we ever did get that Olympic-type flame at William Stadium we could have a deal where the flame is taken from Doc's gravesite and perhaps taken by a torch relay or something to the stadium.

I paid my respects today, now that the Memorial Garden is complete. I loved the white cross in the middle with the fountain: it had a very peaceful sound to it. Dr. Falwell's grave is covered by stones that match the circular stone wall around it. At the base of the west wall are 4 quotes by Dr. Falwell. Near the grave were 3 customized black metal benches--one with TRBC, one with LCA, & one with LU. And there appears to be plenty of room for other family members to be buried there in the future.

I know one of the guys that did alot of the work on the garden through Abbot Masonry. When you are looking at the mansion from the site, there are 4 columns with rock work in them. The furthest column to the left has a J in the work. The furthest to the right has an F. Kind of neat little personal touch that no one knows about. Take a look!

yeah, I walked around it yesterday and it wasn't lit...not sure if the wind kept it from burning or not.

I'm sure some bugs need to be worked out.

I work right next to it--I'll have to take a stroll over and see when I get back from break.

I'm sure it's an emotional place. I had to do a double-take the other day flipping through channels and caught an old Live from Liberty recording. I still can't believe he's not around.

anyone want to take a guess how much it costs to keep that flame going a day?

I know just having a gas-lit lamp in my front yard costs way too much I can only imagine an open flame. Yikes.

It's actually not bad at all...it's about a dollar a day...sounds like this could be a potential theme for Liberty Athletics :flamingdevil

Falwell's resting place topped by eternal flame

The burial garden for the Rev. Jerry Falwell - crowned with an eternal flame - is nearly complete.

The Falwell family lit the flame, which is connected to a natural gas line, on Christmas Eve in a private ceremony.

Falwell, who died in May, was laid to rest in a burial garden overlooking Lynchburg on the grounds of the Carter Glass mansion on the Liberty University campus.

Apparently that somebody is you. I've heard the same thing already. The cross isn't burning. The flame is on top, separate. If the entire cross were on fire, that'd be different.

What a horrible first post.

I'm willing to give this gentlemen the benefit of the doubt that his post was in jest. I give it a 3/10, as it's the first time I've heard that remark.
