only good songs on that list are smells like teen spirit by nirvana, losing my religion by REM, enter sandman by metalicca, sabotage by beastie boys, mr. jones by counting crows, semi-charmed life by the underrated band third eye blind, iris by goo goo dolls, buddy holly by weezer, and sex and candy by the oft forgotten marcy playground.

that shows how pathetic the 90s popular music was, a top 100 list only has 9 quality songs on it - well mostly all popular music is crap anyways, but the 90s was especially horrific.

meanwhile, the vh1 100 greatest songs of the 80s can be found at rockonthenet.com (couldnt find it on the vh1 website oddly enough) has 12 good songs just in the top 30 and 29 overall. just further proof the 90s is the sign of the downfall of society.

One song that's missing that should be on there is "All for You" by Sister Hazel.

For a few years you couldn't turn on the radio and not hear that song.

yes I looked at the whole list. out of the 100 there are only 9 good songs, the rest are either OK or not worth ever listening to.

As for the Backstreet Boys being that high, if you don't realize how influential that song was to the pop scene, then you're just not paying attention. That completely changed the pop landscape and ushered in the rest of the stuff for the next 5-8 years. I know most didn't like it, but that changed the way pop music was.

i have mixed feelings about the 90's....90's popular music wasn't that great that is for sure....and this list reflects that....but I have a soft spot for 90's rock....pop music went into the crapper when disco made it big in the late 70's....from then its just spiraled out of control.....

You hate that era of music. Record sales, concert sales, merchandising sales, etc say that it was one of the best eras of pop music ever.

That is a total of 42.6% of the total number of diamond albums ever sold. The first record to ever go diamond was in 1967. The last album to go diamond was in 2003. That's a 37 year span. Almost 43% of the sales were made in 27% of the time. It was a very good time for the record industry.

Popularity does not equal good. No one said it did. However, to say that it was the worst era of music is completely stupid because every possible shred of evidence says that from an industry standpoint, it's quite possibly the best era ever. You didn't like it. You didn't think it was good. Obviously, there were a lot more who did think it was good.

provide me with evidence that says the backstreet boys and various other retarded groups/bands produced intelligent music that had artistic qualities in it. if your music is more easily understood on the first try than a Clifford the Big Red Dog book, thats not artistic in the least bit

one year for a college freshman english class, my son\'s professor made everyone bring in a song with the lyrics for everyone to interpret the lyrics. my son said that for about 9 out of every 10 songs played, there was absolutely no discussion about the song because it was blatantly obvious what the song was about. my son said he chose a hardcore song that wasnt well liked for its musical qualities - what do you expect out of a crowd of people who brought in the likes of J-Lo for the assignment - but according to him provided the most lively discussion because the lyrics were artistic and didnt come right out and tell you what the dang song was about!

the 90s was by far full or more music devoid of any intelligence or artistic quality than any other decade since the 50s. theres a reason why a lot of people stopped buying CDs and downloading mp3s other than the fact it was free if done illegally: a lot of people didnt want to pay 12-20 bucks (depending on where you buy your music) for some new cd with only 1-5 good songs on it, and in a lot of cases five would be stretching it. God forbid people actually listen to bands/groups that can consistently put out good or even great music! If a band produces a CD and I don\'t like at least 60-75% of it or more, I don\'t even consider getting it, I might download a song or two, but that band most likely wont end up on my list of bands to pay attention to because they dont produce enough quality music on a consistent basis.

all they do is sing. big deal. my next door neighbor can sing well, should she be all over the radio singing some stupid song? well thats up to you, but if the only musical talent a person has is singing, then you dont rank any higher on my list then my nextdoor neighbor. for God sake, often times bsb, nsync, brit. s., etc. didn\'t even write their own lyrics, and you call them talented? please, give me a break...

Pop music is more about the look then about musical talent...not that pop groups from the 90's didn't have any talent...but if you have the right look and the right push American's will latch onto you like lost puppies....its just the way it is...

thepostman is right, and in addition to what he said, the power of brainwashing is immense. back in the 90s when mtv actually played music (what a novel concept!), they would play bsb and nsync over and over and bombard you with stuff saying how great they are and what not. if you hear it enough, you\'ll believe ir rather it\'s true or not. and if you don\'t think that, then I reference you to do some research on the Hitler Jugend.
