I was driving along and I heard on ESPN Radio talk of bringing the spread offense to UM. Herbstreit was saying that the Big Blue fans and alums are in for quite a culture shock.

The spread offense would be interesting in the Big Ten. The biggest problem would be getting the athletes and being able to run the ball effectively.

I think RR will be able to bring the guys in that he needs...itll be interesting seeing what he does with what is there (Mallett will probably be the #1 going into the spring and he is more of a pocket guy from what I have seen and less somebody that could run a spread offense and execute that zone read to the HB)

And obviously Illinois has shown that you can run the spread offense with success in the Big Ten

have to disagree manson....michigan is one job that i think you would leave your alma mater for. i think his road to winning a national championship would be easier as well, though he had it on platter this year and oculd not get the job done.

Yes, Michigan has tons of tradition, but he had built WVU, his school, into a national player. I'm not surprised he left, but I just wish there was more loyality in the sports world.

I think you hit it right there. Michigan and West Virginia aren't even close to the same level.

As for loyalty, sure it's his alma mater but it's not like he was working there just for the joy of being there. It was a job. Working at your alma mater is a perk, that's all.

Look at WVU and Michigan's records for the past 5 years, I know WVU is in the Big Least and Michigan is in the Big Ten, but the records still speaks for itself. He had built WVU into a national title contender. Whether you agree they were/are that good does not matter. In the current BCS format, he had them near the top for the past few years. Where was Michigan?

If I, as a coach, had built LU basketball into a national power (Top 25, NCAA tourney, etc...), & the job at UNC came open & they offered me....well, I'd be in Chapel Hill. There's too much tradition & history to turn down. Doesn't mean I don't have respect for my alma mater. Same with Michigan & Rodriguez.

Also, if using that logic, Coach Green would not be here.

As a Penn State fan I got a kick out of coaching candidate after coaching candidate turn down "one of most prestigious coaching jobs in college football" but applaud them for landing RR. I believe RR will have a tough time this upcoming season, but he could inspire change in play philosophy in the league that refuses to change. Illinois may have taken some people by surprise this season, but it is far from being the norm in the Big Ten.

I dread what will happen when Joe Paterno eventually steps down at Penn State if Michigan had the problems they did. Another fear of course is that they hire from within.

Paterno stepping down would be one of the best things for Penn State. Michigan had a lot of internal power struggles going on which compromised the hiring process. I doubt you would see that or see it as much at PSU.

For me, it basically goes back to loyalty. It's one of the main things not in sports that I wish was.

I'm not saying I blame Rodriguez from going to Ann Arbor, he just happens to be the latest to shun his school.

uh...apparently you forgot michigan was the #2 team in the nation up until the osu game...

since from 2003 - 2006 both teams were contenders twice...

michigan wet the bed in 07 and wvu eventually did against pitt.

michigan may have "fallen off" a bit but not that much...

even though i'm a big ten fan, they have an unfair advantage in my eyes....all that is needed in the big ten is a 10-1 or and 11-0 season and you are in the big game....

needless to say i'm excited about getting rich rod...

i wonder if we get pryor if he'll do the 1,2 punch at qb...it will be interesting because i think mallet will be good...i just don't know how he fits in rich's offense

#2 in the nation??? What polls do you look at that noone else knows about? They were pre-season top 5, the only time they were in the top 10 this year. And we saw what happened.
