The most successful program on Liberty Mountain deserves its own forum. We give Coach Green and the Lady Flames their props while breaking down their run to the Big Dance once again.

I think it's quite possible we could be 11-1, but the fact that the teams in the UNLV tourney are not particularly strong would work against us for getting ranked. We would have points, but probably not top 25.

We should be 11-1, but I don't think we will be ranked. However, if we make it to 14-2 before conference play starts, IMO we would be ranked then. Then if we were able to run the table in the BSC we would probably be top 20. I know that's a lot of "ifs" but it's fun to speculate.

We've run the table before in the BSC and didn't even receive votes after the conference tourney. The Big South holds our women's basketball team back. Granted, it has gotten better with High Point and UNCA stepping it up somewhat the past two years, but now they're both down with Radford and Winthrop (yes...they have a women's bball team) replacing them. But one really good team and two decent ones aren't earning the Big South much more respect.

It has nothing to do with respect for the BSC. Since our sweet 16 run, we have earned respect from those in the know in regards to WBB, if we were to go this whole season with only 2 losses and both of them being to teams in the ACC (one in the top 10) then we would be ranked. In the past several years, we have always lost a few games in the OOC portion of our schedule that were not to "good" teams.

If we were to get to 14-2, then sweep through the Big South and beat Presby, and win the conference tourney, we would be 30-2

Yeah I know, lots of "ifs".

Hey, we once entered the NCAA tourney undefeated. Put nothing past the Lady Flames.

Yeah, but the competition was nothing like it is this year, or has been the past few years.

Yes, but if they didn't lose, isn't it hard to say it was because of the competition? They were good. The only thing the weak competition proved was that none of us knew exactly how good they were. It would have been nice that year if we had scheduled a team that was somewhere between Radford and Tennessee in skill, but it just wasn't how it worked out.

My point is that it's not unprecedented for the program to put together long strings of wins. The Lady Flames have a history and it wouldn't completely surprise me to see them end up with a 30-2 record at the end of the season.

I agree with you, but if that same team played this same schedule, they wouldn't go undefeated. Anyways, I hope we are able to get to 30 wins, that would be the first time in school history if I'm not mistaken.

I agree, and I wasn't arguing that they would. I would like to have seen that team play this type of schedule, though.

I hope so as well, and you are correct. The seasons with the most wins were 97-98 (28-1), 02-03 (26-4) and 04-05 (26-7).

And IMHO if this team played that schedule, they wouldn't have needed a miracle shot to beat Nichols state at the buzzer, would have completely dominated most of their opponents and been much more competative against Tennessee. If you think BSC women's basketball is bad now...............................

The miracle shot came against New Orleans and not Nichols State that year by Sharon Wilkerson. I think we beat Nichols State pretty good that year if I am not mistaken in the undefeated regular season back then.

No votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll...despite Charleston Southern's and our former coach Rick Reeves being on that panel.

Beat UNC = Get ranked

Otherwise, I am hoping for just enough recognition to get a good seed in the tournament. We just don't play a strong enough schedule to get the attention we need to be ranked. It is a lot about perception with these polls.
If we make another sweet sixteen run that perception might begin to change but right now that season is seen as a fluke. Start consistantly winning a game or two in the tournament and/or win more big name non-conference games on a regular basis and it won't matter if we play in the BS. We will get attention.

IMO, we have won plenty of big name non-conference games on a regular basis, just none in the top 10. I do agree with you that we need to get to where we consistently win a game or two in the big dance though.

Do we have the height to be competitive in the tourney? When we made the Sweet 16, we had Katie and she dominated both games. This year we just don't have the height.

I wouldn't be over-confident about this weekend. Ball State has four starters back from a team that won the MAC West Division, finished second in the MAC tournament, went to the WNIT, and set a school record by winning 27 games. Yes, they currently don't have a great record, but this is a very dangerous team! Austin Peay is better than they've been in a couple of years, but still not the strong team they were when they made four NCAA appearences from 2001-2004. UNLV has four returning starters including the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year. They also have a signature win over #16 George Washington.
