Actually, find me teams, not on BJ's list, who beat 5 bowl eligable teams.
Ok, give me some time.
After some thorough research I have found the following info:

There are 4 teams (other than USF) with 5 wins over bowl-eligible teams:

Florida who has 7!
Clemson who has 6.
Oregon with 5 and have beaten USC and Ariz St.
Michigan with 5.

I would take all of those teams ahead of USF. All 4 of them played in toughet conferences, except for maybe Michigan.
No way is the Big 10 tougher.

Michigan proved that the big 10 gets wins against the big 10 and they all wind up bowl eligible and lose in their bowls.

Clemson and Florida you have legit arguments for.

Oregon, without Dixon, just isn't an appealing pick. And the NCAA committee for basketball does consider that sort of thing when it comes to bubble teams.

So UCF, Oregon State, UF, Clemson, and USF all have a legit reason to have the the last two spots.

Hey there are three conferences that got 3 bids under my system if you look at the breakdown. If you intended that to be a joke I didn't find it very funny.
BJ take it easy buddy, this is a hypothetical tourney.
you are asking way too much of him man

Well hey Id put Florida in but I did add the "CAA rule" so that one conference doesn't get the majority of the bids. I mean not everybody is gonna be happy with who gets in and who doesn't (much like with who gets in the NCAA basketball tournament and who doesn't...who gets in the 1-AA/FCS playoffs or not...who gets in the BCS or not...etc). Im not saying its a perfect system
The CAA rule no longer exists

No one is happy about this playoff system BJ....... BRING BACK THE BCS!!!!!!!!

Sigh...this is exactly what I expected would happen...Im sticking to my guns on the criteria. I clearly said that we aren't going to have more than 3 teams from a given conference in this setup. And as was mentioned before...this is a hypothetical situation. I will admit that when I decided to put if Central Florida, part of me wanted to see a team that no one expected in the bracket. I'll be setting the overall bracket over the next few days and will have the first polls up come the weekend.

Very good, BJ...your tournament...your rules. I think it goes to show all of us that regardless of even having a playoff, there will always be snubs.

by the way BJ I am from the central florida area and if there was a playoff system I would love to see them in it...at this point in the season they are playing very well....I actually like the thought have having a 16 team playoff and giving 11 at auto bids to all 11 conference champions and having 5 at large. Many may disagree, but in my mind this will even the playing field in the future and give other schools a shot at the title and could possibly give us a march madness feel, football style...

I give you a hard time BJ, but its fun to talk hypothetically about these kind of things, don't take anything personl

I think you guys are gonna like what Ive come up with. like I said a very heavy majority of the teams in my 16 have 10 or more victories.

Here is how the tournament will work:

1v16
8v9

5v12
4v13

6v11
3v14

7v10
2v15

The bracket works very similarly to the NCAA tournament bracket. 1/16 winner against 8/9 winner in Q1, 5/12 winner against 4/13 winner, etc. next week will be R1, then R2 the week after that. I am traveling with my family to Arizona the week of the 21-28 so I might be able to get the semifinals set up before that but if not The semifinals will start New Years Eve and the Heisman Bowl will take place over the weekend prior to the BCS title game. Each round takes 4 days.

BJ...as a long time Tennessee fan...my only complaint is that they are in it instead of Florida.

yeah that was a tough call to make...I was going through the SEC and looking at teams that merited consideration and really the big one for me was not only the fact that I wasn't going to put 4 teams from one conference in this little exercise...but also the fact that Tennessee made the SEC title game while Florida did not. I think that if Florida (or even GA) had made it and played LSU instead of Tennessee, the Vols would not have gotten an at large.

Really with so many teams with double digit wins, everything after about 4 or 5 was a major challenge. A lot of where some of these teams finished is based on their results against other teams in the bracket as well as all the other criteria I posted earlier. Georgia finished second to Tennessee in the SEC East but had a superior record. I really could not put them too much higher than where they were at because of the caliber of teams ahead of them

The quality of teams ahead of them??? Let's see you have Hawaii, Missouri, Illinois, & Boston College ahead of them. Georgia deserves to be ahead of each of those teams.

Yes, but that's not what I asked.

I asked who they lost to.

And they also beat Boise, Washington, Fresno, which are respectable wins.

I wanted to put together the most intriguing matchups in light of the criteria. Hawaii/Missouri seems like a much more interesing matchup than Georgia Missouri, particularly in light of the Heisman race. Georgia is in a rematch of the 2006 Chick-Fil-A Bowl with VT.

Here are the teams ahead of Georgia:

6. West Virginia
7. Arizona State
8. Hawaii
9. Missouri
10. Illinois
11. Boston College

Here are their records:

10-2
10-2
12-0
11-2
9-3
10-3

I could maybe see Georgia being ahead of Illinois and Boston College in light of their record but I wouldn't put them in the top half.
