They don't care at all what athletics is doing. All they care about is themselves. It's completely obvious and anyone who says different is flat-out wrong.

What: Christmas Movie Night
When: 8 PM Saturday December 1st
Where: Schilling Center

If Student Activities would try to promote the "activities" at sporting events we might be able to get some kids there.

Yup, and that is why we won't ever be as good of a program as we could be.

The Cameron Crazies don't have to decide between Charlie Brown or Kyle Singler...

Is Christmas movie night a big deal at LU? I wouldn't figure that there would be alot of students who would otherwise go to the basketball game that may change their mind because the Grinch is being played somewhere else...

A WINNING program will take care of the Santa Clause movie night. It will probably take a couple more years, but we used to have a full house almost every game when Peter Aluma and supporting cast were playing, with a much smaller student body. Can't go from the outhouse to the penthouse overnight, but think we are headed in the right direction.

The problem, with me at least, is that the promote things that are in direct competition with athletics. Most student activities groups promote the actual athletic events with their event afterwards. That's the logical way to do things.

I saw this about a week ago, but have no been able to say anything on the board about it. If we were a big time program I would not be too worried, but the fact that we are struggling to put butt's in seats it would be nice if student activities would work with the athletic department in a way that benefited all. This movie night could have turned into a late night event that started right after the game in the Vines Center or something to that extent.

There are so many ways student activities could do things like this yet help our athletic dept. at the same time.

I just do not get it and I never will.....something is brewing here and it ain't good.

The problem is that we're expecting Liberty to do something logical. I've alwys said that the only thing Liberty and logic have in common is the letter L.

Student Activities has always seemed oblivious to athletics, and if you asked them they'd say something like "Not all out students enjoy basketball, so we're trying to give them an activity that they'll enjoy."

And the logical answer to that is: More people enjoy basketball and movies than who enjoy movies but not basketball, so let's move the movies til after basketball.

I couldn't agree w/ you more, Flameshaw.

When the basketball team becomes more exciting then the Grinch, people will come. For now, you're just going to have to wait. I hate it, you hate it, but that's just life. The team has been bad, so people don't care. I wish they would show up but until the team gets good we need to stop comparing ourselves to Duke. How's Duke's football attendance?

For the record, I do think student activities doing this movie thing is asinine. But people wouldn't come either way.

Hey Superjon, you should write an editorial for the Champion and rip student activities. If you have any connections there you could probably get it published.

I agree with what you said, but we really shouldn't give people an extra reason not to come to the game.

As for the Champion, even if I had connections, it wouldn't get published. They don't allow things to be published that are against the school.

Wouldn't have to be against the school. Just say it wasn't a good idea to have the movie during the basketball game. After all, its a postive aspect that you are trying to improve. One negative and one positive. As long as you aren't mean, it should be okay.

We're talking about Liberty here. If it's even 5 positives and one negative, it's not getting published.

jon is right, i know several people who have written for the champion and it has been severely edited before being published to the point where it went from being a logical article to a LU ad

Please don't talk about Liberty on the whole like that. You make it sound as if everyone working at Liberty is an idiot.

I hate to break it you El Scorcho, but the fellas' are right on this one. As a former Champion writer, I know all too well that the big dogs at LU won't let something go to print in the champion until they get their hands on it. I had numerous stories and columns sliced and diced until they had just the right spin or twist that LU wanted. It's sad but true. The Champion is a good publication for the most part, but at times, it can be nothing more than one more Liberty PR stunt, and that's unfortunate.

You said that I was arguing about something that I wasn't. That's not too cool for school, it's just how it is.

What I said had absolutely nothing to do with the Champion or censorship of the Champion.

The point I'm trying to make is that Liberty DOES censor a lot of things that go on around the campus. I believe you made some remark earlier about don't make it sound like everyone working at Liberty is an idiot.
THAT is what I was talking about. The fact that while a good number of people working there aren't idiots, there's more people working there than there should be that have their heads buried in the sand. And the thing is, it's true whether you want to admit it or not El Scorcho.
If it wasn't true, they would loosen up their death grip on a lot of things that get produced and published at that school.
