You GMTM'ed his name.

Downs Syndrome?

Yeah, that was wrong, I know. I blame Burl Ives.

as far as the duke job, first of all they are spending 75 million on stadium renovations this coming year, i'd call that putting money into the program.
second of all, the AD (joe alleva) and coach K aren't great buddies like they used to be, and many people at Duke don't like him. so to say he's there as long as K is ridiculous. If he and k were still tight this would probably be true, but they aren't. and if the right people with a lot of money decide to not like him, he could disappear quickly.

now i can only hope that happens, b/c i can't stand the guy

I knew one of you would correct me if I was wrong, and rightly so. All I knew for sure was that they were finally spending money.

yeah, i heard there finally gonna fork up for a good coach.
supposedly an anonymous donor has said he'll pay the first 2 mil a year on a contract for a good coach. if thats true, someone has wayyy too much money.
but they are putting some money into the program. i think coach k may have something to do with it b/c he's made some comments about the football program. that and the fact that its an embarrassment to the school, the acc, and the ncaa

A good football program can only help Coach K's basketball program, thus him wanting a good football team.

Why is the Dook job career suicide? They have some amazing facilities that they just opened up. Spurrier proved you can win there. Dook is in the shadow of Carolina and State, both of which have decided to start spending money on football, Carolina especially. It was ok for Dook to suck when Carolina did. Now Carolina went out and got a good coach, is spending money on the stadium, facilities, etc and Dook doesn't want to suck if Carolina is good. Dook just opened new workout facilities and, if they decide to put money towards football, could become a good program. Liberty was terrible until the administration started putting money towards facilities, got a good coach, etc. If Kansas and Missouri can be in the top 5, Dook can be competitive.
Actually, Duke just last year did a survey among alumni and major donors to ask about supporting football. According to their AD (which may mean this is tainted) they received an overwhelming response that football was not a priority. No one wants to give money to the program, no one is interested in them having a winning football team and no one (aside from a few true blue fans) expects them to be a winning program. The Yoh Center is nice and was a needed upgrade for Duke. That's about all they've got going for them though. Wallace-Wade is what it is and their AD has long been rumored to only pay lip service to the football program. Many wanted to see him gone before there was another football coaching change.
Carolina tried the same thing, but they didn't have enough alumni who could read the survey and they were too embarassed to ask Duke grads for help. :D

Got to love the NC humor.

I remember when Lefty was coaching Maryland, and a Duke fan asked for his autograph. Lefty said he couldn't give it to him, because he went to Duke himself and never learned how to write his name there.

So they hired State grads to read it to them. A degree from Moo U has got to be good for something, right?

Hence why they are an anonymous donor

Dienhart updated his article a little today adn it still has Rocco considered for Duke. I have some inside sources (yes me) who say Duke is coming after him as well. I hope it goes away!
DUKE

Look for a proven head coach at Duke, which is using Chuck Neinas in its search

Early names with merit are South Florida assistant head coach Dan McCarney, Terry Bowden, Middle Tennessee coach Rick Stockstill, Richmond coach Dave Clawson and Liberty coach Danny Rocco. Others who make sense are Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong and Illinois offensive coordinator Mike Locksley.

I am told Steve Spurrier Jr. isn't a candidate.

Duke=career suicide (unless your name is Spurrier). Even Goldsmith who had a good year with them is coaching HS ball, I think.

Coach would be better off waiting 2-3 years, establishing the program, then roll. I think he would have trouble at Duke getting in some of the recruits he is able to land here.

i'm not even worried. rocco wouldn't go to Duke. he likes it here and is here for a while, and if he leaves it won't be for duke.
duke oughta go after terry bowden. i know his name was listed, i think that would be there best option

PTI reported that The Old Ball Coach is actually showing some possible interest.

PTI might be misinformed:
Spurrier was seen shaking hands with Alleva outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium around 3:20 p.m.

Spurrier's old job, coaching football at Duke, is open, but it's highly unlikely the "Head Ball Coach" was chatting with his good friend about taking the job.

"I've cast my lot with South Carolina," Spurrier told The State in Columbia, S.C., this week. "And we're going to try our best to get to the top some way, somehow or another, the right way."

I don't see it either and believe what he said after Jerry Passed. I just was reporting the interest. I don't think Spurrier would regress to Puke!

This was posted on a dook board by a guy who has proven he played basketball while he was at dook. Here is what he says about dook football:
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the university, but I remember talking to people while I was there in undergrad and there are members of the university that do not want us to excel at any sports and wants us to be more like an ivy. That was during President Keohane's tenure, so maybe its different under Broadhead. Anyway, it still makes sense to suck at football as long as you're in a BCS conference. Each member of the conference gets money from the BCS every year, so why invest money into a program as long as you continue to profit just from conference affiliation? The question you have to ask is, does the administration feel it is worth it to invest a lot of resources into the football program when there is a historical precedent that it is extremely more difficult for private schools to compete at the highest level? They worry that in order to properly enhance the football program it would require a lot more money and also lowering academic standards. If you honestly think they care about being the laughing stock then I don't know what to tell you. They are running one of the most elite universities in the nation, they do not care what college football fans think.
