In case anyone hasn't already heard, GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will be speaking in convocation this Wednesday.
Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, a candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination, will speak at Wednesday’s convocation at Liberty University.

LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. said Huckabee’s campaign contacted Liberty recently to discuss the candidate’s plans and the progress of his campaign. In response to that — along with requests from a number of LU students working with Huckabee’s campaign — Falwell invited him to speak.

Falwell said many LU board members have already endorsed Huckabee.

This is not Huckabee’s first visit to Lynchburg. He has spoken at Thomas Road Baptist Church in the past. He was friends with the late Rev. Jerry Falwell.

Huckabee, 51, was born in Hope, Ark., the same hometown of former President Bill Clinton. A former Baptist minister, Huckabee became the youngest president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, the largest denomination in Arkansas.

Falwell said he is excited about Huckabee’s visit to Liberty.

"It’s a great opportunity for a candidate to express his views … it’s a good forum for him and it’s good for our students to hear from national leaders like Gov. Huckabee."

Falwell said there will be a question-and-answer period following Huckabee’s talk.

Huckabee will be the third candidate to make an appearance at LU. U.S. Sen. John McCain spoke at Liberty’s graduation in May 2006 and Alan Keyes, a former Assistant Secretary of State, spoke at convocation in September.

When is Obama coming to speak?

He is a Christian, ya know...

Although I am not a Tried and True Right-winger, I do not want to ever be in the presence of Obama, it was a joke...

I wouldn't mind seeing some of the other side's candidates getting some equal time at LU. I'm not saying that because I think or even hope it would help their campaign; I just think it would be interesting.

Could you imagine the outcry of people if Hilary spoke in Convo?

Jerry always said that he would gladly let a liberal candidate speak at LU or TRBC, but he never received any offers. I don't know how true any of that is, though.

I don't think Jerry would have lied about that.......

Plus it would be too easy for the lib candidate to call him out

Ted Kennedy spoke at TRBC in October of '83. It'd never happen in today's climate, but I'd love to hear from the dissenting candidates in person.

I have to say, he pretty much won me over. I need to do a little research, but I really like what he has to say.

I will say that I didn't know he was a Fair Tax supporter before today. That goes a long way with me. Still concerned about some things, but the Fair Tax is a big deal.

Been big on that one from day one. He is as sick of the current system and the IRS as we are.

I love the idea of the Fair Tax but I'm afraid that it's something that could only work if the government behind it weren't inherently greedy. In other words, it won't work.

Initially I was a Thompson fan because I thought he was the closest I could get who could win. He didn't show me a thing once he got into the race and he dropped his early staff who had him on my best side. Then I look around more and see Huckabee sitting there and I got to thinking... He's saying just about what I'd say myself if I were running.

I never went public with my support of Thompson and I've never campainged for any Presidential Candidate but Huckabee is hitting on all cylinders for me. At the end of the day he's where I am on the issues and with our support he can win.

As for whether we "completely agree" with him... I know I don't "completely agree" with my wife either.
