Best chants of the night were probably, in no particular order:

1) The HMO chant
2) The Jerry Jr. chant
3) The Chris Lang chant

Other than that, we didn't really do much. I was kind of disappointed.

Let me get this straight. Longwood fans were upset because our fans were standing up cheering in our own gym. You said there was only a handful of Longwood fans to begin with. Why couldn't they just move, it wasn't even half full. This stuff is absolute garbage.

If they think our fans are classless they have seen nothing. Others schools chant profanity and curse words in unison. All we did is basically cheer for our team. Pathetic.

If they would've won, they wouldn't have complained. It's the same reason PC, Coastal, and VMI fans thought we were classless and rude when they played here. We stand up, we're loud, and we're creative. Nowhere else in the Big South do you see that in as big of a group than at Liberty. Even with our terrible student attendance, we're still louder, closer to the bench, and more rowdy than any other student section in the conference. If we'd get kids to actually stand up (the ones behind the first four rows) then we'd be unstoppable.

I repeat:

It's nights like tonight that make me really wish we had a true, student led support club for athletics. It's the one thing that other schools in the conference have that we don't.

ok. This is now getting ridiculous. ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC.

is this REALLY going to continue ALL SEASON? Can the AD NOT get a meeting with LUPD supervisors and CLARIFY THIS FOR ONCE AND FOR ALL?

seriously- the first time was kinda amusing, the second time- not so much, and now- quickly becoming outrageous.

we will absolutely kill our fan base if we continue to have the "manners police" looming at sporting events.

I told you it was quickly handled by other people in charge. The guy who told us to sit down had never been to a game this year. He was told by others, who had, that we were allowed to stand. He simply didn't know. He talked to us for maybe 30 seconds, then was told by someone else we could stand, and it was over.

If I'm defending the guy, you know it wasn't a problem.

I'm glad it was fixed- but it shouldn't have come to that.

I can't fathom the mentality that says- "hmmm. I'm assigned to the xxxxxxx (Vines, Williams, etc) for this sporting event. I think I'll take it upon myself to go after fans who are cheering loudly and standing up when I think they shouldn't."
:furious

howsabout you just stand and watch for fights, or injuries, or medical problems- you know; normal crowd control activities like EVERY OTHER public service agency provides.

They didn't just come and say, "Hey, sit down." They said that they were asked to have us sit down because there were others in attendance that couldn't see because of us. As someone who was new and had never been in the situation before, with us, I can understand why he came and asked us to sit down. He didn't know any better.

Everyone deserves one screw up. This was his and he got corrected for it. No big deal at all.

i missed most of that. i heard him tell us to sit down, but we just looked at him. i figured he just gave up because none of us moved and he didn't have enough support to toss us all.

the attendance was terrible. once again i don't think the game was promoted very well. i'm sure they mentioned it in convo but i didn't notice it, so i'm sure most others didn't either. they need to do something to get people there. i know we have some great people in charge who can get this done, i just keep waiting for them to do it.

I think they should have mcKay say something in convo, even if its just, "hey guys, we have a game tuesday and i hope all of you come out for it". something besides just johnny moore reading it off an announcement sheet b/c everyone tunes that out.
I think another idea would be to put something BIG on the vines center for the game. flashing it on the screen isn't enough. maybe like a sign or banner of some sort.
also the emails for football were good and let everyone know about the games, and they should do that for bball also.

I trust the guys in charge, and do expect to see some good marketing for the games in the future. i assume there just recovering from football before they launch into the marketing, or either waiting for the bsouth games, but they need to market before then

Yes! I'm glad someone else noticed this. I kept looking at him and then at my roster. I kept wondering if we had missed some information. That's got to suck for him. Dude is wearing someone elses jersey.

Also of note last night, Baker is not just merely in a boot anymore, he's also on crutches. Glad to see things are getting better.

In the local fishwrap blurb about the game yesterday it said Tyler will be out at least 6 weeks. It was just kind of thrown out there like "oh, by the way", with no further explaination. Hopefully he will be ready to help in conference play.

He had been cleared and was working himself back into game shape and then it just happened. He wouldn't have played if he wasn't cleared initially.

At Alabama they have a student group called Mark's Madness. Named for the coach (Mark Gottfried), it is student initiated and student run but has the coaches blessing and support. (I think Mark even swings for the t-shirts but I am not positive on that.) I know the three students that are officers this year and can put you in touch with them if you want ideas. I do know the officers meet with the coach a few times a season to go over ground rules, etc. They recruit members, who then get a t-shirt and they have a designated section under the basket just for this group.

My advice is start "Richie's Rowdies" or something. Get his support, set up a table in demoss and start getting sign-ups, create an email list so you can communicate stuff (like new chant ideas/pranks to pull when the other team is shooting free throws, etc), and give them all T-shirts so they feel a part of the group and maybe feel obligated to join in the fun.

I think getting the coach to work with the students to create the atmosphere is the key for success when you are starting out.

that's all well and good but it can not be the Rowdies. That's Radford's group and we can't be associated with them in any way.

I know all about groups named after coaches, etc. The problem is, the way Liberty works, and always has, is that something will not work if it's rivaling an "official" group.
