Why is the Dook job career suicide? They have some amazing facilities that they just opened up. Spurrier proved you can win there. Dook is in the shadow of Carolina and State, both of which have decided to start spending money on football, Carolina especially. It was ok for Dook to suck when Carolina did. Now Carolina went out and got a good coach, is spending money on the stadium, facilities, etc and Dook doesn't want to suck if Carolina is good. Dook just opened new workout facilities and, if they decide to put money towards football, could become a good program. Liberty was terrible until the administration started putting money towards facilities, got a good coach, etc. If Kansas and Missouri can be in the top 5, Dook can be competitive.
Actually, Duke just last year did a survey among alumni and major donors to ask about supporting football. According to their AD (which may mean this is tainted) they received an overwhelming response that football was not a priority. No one wants to give money to the program, no one is interested in them having a winning football team and no one (aside from a few true blue fans) expects them to be a winning program. The Yoh Center is nice and was a needed upgrade for Duke. That's about all they've got going for them though. Wallace-Wade is what it is and their AD has long been rumored to only pay lip service to the football program. Many wanted to see him gone before there was another football coaching change.

Oh, I agree the AD is terrible. The only problem is as long as Coach K is there, the AD will be too.

P.S.

Did anyone else notice the headline in that sportingnews.com article? Seems to me there's more to be worried about there than there is with Duke.

Yea, I saw that and it is very worrysome. I still go back to Coach Rocco's comment after Jerry died though where he said he plans to stick around to fulfil Jerry's dreams.

Which is why we laugh at most dook fans. Many of them couldn't name the starting QB on the team. Those so-called fans will give the "I cheer for VT (or insert other top 10 team here) in football, but I cheer for dook in basketball" crap. I hate that. Carolina football has not been in the best shape over the past 10 years, but I tell everyone I'm a Carolina fan, regardless of the sport. I've spent many Saturdays in Kenan...& got the ticket stubs to prove it.

There are Carolina basketball fans and true Carolina fans hate them.

I hate VT football/Duke basketball fans more than just straight up Duke fans. There are a ton of them.

i would think any true fan of any college would hate fans that just follow one sport....I don't understand that logic....

In order to be "considered" do you need to put your name out there? Is he fishing his name?

If it's Duke, I care. They're dumb.

That's a great question.

I went to school with a guy who was a 49ers fan, an ND football fan, a Duke bball fan, a Bulls fan, and yes a Yankees fan and he was not from any of these places. Obviously he was born in the early 80s. Kids are often bandwagoners. Some of them stick with those teams.

No. More than likely that's just people guessing. Before Lloyd Carr retired, people were already mentioning Les Miles' name. He hadn't been contacted by anyone at that point, and didn't put his name out there.

If Nebraska decides they want Grobe, they can certainly throw plenty of money his way, but IMHO that would be the only plus for him. At Wake he has more than enough $$, security, and realistic expectations, and he has shown he has a formula that will allow his teams to be competetive in the ACC. At Nebraska, he would be just another coach who comes in and will be quickly discarded if he doesn't meet their unrealistic expectations. I heard one ESPN commentator compare the Nebraska fans to the girl at the bar who thinks she is a "10" when in fact she is a "7". It's going to take a lot to get that program back anywhere near where it was, and I think they need a young coach who is a "legacy" like Gill, to be there long term to do it.

I personally don't give a rip about Nebraska football. I just agree that Wake might just be the one job that Rocco would leave us for right now and so I want Grobe to stay there for a loooooooong time!

Let's just assume that Grobe takes the Nebraska job, which we know is just an assumption at this point, what is the realistic chance that Rocco leaves us for Wake? And what would it take for us to keep him here?

I have no problem with someone who sticks with them no matter what their record. I just hate the "on-again-off-again" fair weather fans...which most bandwagon fans are. I know plenty of people who never cheered for VT in their life....now, since Vick was there, they act like they have always been a Hokie....when it comes to football.

My ONLY concern with that is there is an obvious connection with those examples you've mentioned....yet with Duke, I mean who would put a Liberty University football coach on the short list (yes I know the ACC connection but still there are hundreds with that connection)

When the Duke Head Football coach came to Lynchburg Sports Club to speak Coach Rocco was there and he said ALOT of great things about him...he really liked Rocco a lot

I think someone like Rocco would help to energize the program there. I just hope it's NOT Rocco. I'd like for him to stay here for a long time.

FYI! I sent the Sporting news author an e-mail to see if he'll spill where he got Danny's name from. We'll see, it's worth a shot.
