It's been in the news lately, and they seem to sing it at every Red Sox game and I'm just finding out that the Auburn University Band has been playing it at their football games too. I didn't know this but it seems to be making a comeback.....can anybody guess which song I'm talking about??

YES!!! I would love it if it were played at the football games. I never knew it was played at all the Red Sox home games until I saw that movie, Fever Pitch so then when I heard the song, I thought it was weird at first but then joined in and sang along. That's one of my all time fav songs (yes,...I know.....I'm aging myself) as I could of been "President" of his (Neil Diamond that is) fan club back in the day. :pbjtime

You don't know that! Auburn plays it at their games.....so I'm almost certain Dr. Kerr would consider it.

What I'm saying is the only stand tune our band EVER plays is Hey Baby. They never play any other song when stand tunes are easy as crap. I haven't played in a marching band in four years and could still probably play 90% of my stand tunes perfectly, some by memory.

That is probably one of the big complaints I have as I look back on marching band...we play a lot of shorts but not as many full songs...we used to play full songs but not a lot of shorts...I think if we can find a happy medium between the two AND get more popular tunes into the folder and memorized I think the band will be a lot more desirable to listen to.

Sweet Caroline
Hawaii Five-O (yeah I know just about every band on earth has done that one)
Zombie Nation
Another One Bites the Dust

Im sure SJ could rattle off some fairly current songs that would be pretty cool too

Ohhh, I see what you're saying. Yea, we're kinda in a rut with the music. What's the best way to suggest new music for the band to play?

Most stand tunes are written in a way that you can play them and cut them off in the same time as a "short."

All of the stand tunes don't have to be current. You can play old stuff and it be very entertaining. Here's some of the stuff we played in high school:

Hey Baby
Rockin Robin
Gimme Some Lovin
Mr. Roboto
Proud Mary
Great Balls of Fire
Cheeseburger in Paradise

There are others, but I can't think of them right now.

OK, once again but I'm dating myself with this one .....does anybody remember "The Horse"? We played back in my day (YES! I'm a band geek too and proud of it!! So is my hubby)...anyways, when I was a littel girl, we lived near El Paso High School, I would often hear the marching band practice and that's where I first heard, "The Horse" so when I got to high school, it was still a popular tune to play. I haven't heard a marching band play it as of late.

BJ, I do like Hawaii 5-0!! That would be so cool!

My dad played The Horse when he was in high school. I've never heard it (have to listen to it later) but he used to love it.

Eh. The song lost something for me this week when Neil finally shared who/what it was about.

Wow, I know this song. Never played it, but I know it.

Just showed my dad and he started dancing to it like they would in the stands (just pointing out he went to a high school in the 70's that was 50% black) and me and my brother about fell in the floor laughing.
