agree with SLY

once I saw UNH in, then Del/Del St I knew we were in trouble

other than EIU no real surprises there.

can't argue, unfortunately.

Proud of the guys and the first ever BSOUTH championship!

I said in a discussion over on AGS about our championship and very simply said that there is still plenty to be proud of. I mean 2 years ago we were 1-10 and an absolute laughingstock and in 2 years Danny Rocco has led this team to an 8-3 record and consideration for a I-AA/FCS playoff berth.

Next year they will have to show some respect, especially if we do well with the schedule for next year

Wish we could have that Toledo game right about now. Oh, and have that ridiculous spot in the W&M game back (or the interception.) Wow, it really came down to a couple of plays.

Hopefully the team will run the table next year in a similar fashion to the last 7 weeks and make it ridiculously difficult for the committee to exclude them.

Oh, and after reading the myriad threads on AGS about the playoffs, I'm annoyed that UNH got in...those guys seem to be the most vocal on that board. One guy gave the reasoning that they could have 8 of the teams who've played in the championship game in the last five years if they chose UNH...and something about granting Santos another shot in the playoffs...:vomit

As a vintage Red Sox fan, I've been able to put this phrase away for the last couple of years...but I'll break it out for this, "There's always next year." Ugh.

We had six D I wins. Norfolk State had seven, New Hampshire beat Marshall, and none of them had an embarrassing loss to a team like Elon. We did.

While it sucks, there were 16 teams with better cases than us (not saying that they are better, they just have better cases). I wouldn't say it's all politics.

In any event... Helluva season!

I guess picking Delaware to play Delaware State was just too tempting for the selection committee to turn down and it is probably what did us in. Plus they beat Navy and JMU and play in the tough Colonial conference. I still can't believe New Hampshire got in at 7-4. Tough conference, preseason hype, and Ricky Santos are the reasons. Not fair that 5 Colonial conference teams got in even though it is a great conference. Seem to be rewardins mediorcrity and that is not right. I guess politics and us playing in a weak conference was our downfall and no "big" win.

Good record but looking at who we beat - what is our best win? Coastal ??? Maybe beating WM & our Toledo would have put us in but on to next year!

Who you beat means more than by how much.

The committee stuck to the 7-win criteria and you can't blame them for that. The result was 5 CAA teams (unprecedented) and two at-large teams (EIU and EWU) with worse GPI's than ours. Some of these games are going to be bloodbaths and, for the record, Wofford got screwed -- again.

The second New Hampshire was announced, we were out. That's just the nature of it. Oh well. We still get a ring.

The thing I absolutely love about this team is that while I was walking out of the FOC, I walked past three of the classrooms that have the video software in them, and in all three of them there were guys from the team watching yesterday's game.

It's like I named my blog after the W&M game: It's bittersweet, but at least it's not just bitter.

Still don't understand me being quoted in the other thread. I didn't say anything.

Remember, Scorch, this is by the person who has a part time job doing all he can to hate on BJ.

That's how the good/better/great et al teams become truly exceptional (even though it will incense some, that mentality is very "Patriots-esque" or any other team where even in victory they are dissecting the places they could have been better.) If that mentality takes hold and permeates the team "psyche" then kudos, that will bring us a postseason berth, eventually a win, and possibly the grand prize at some point in the near future.

That being said, Rocco said his goal this year was always to strive to win the Big South Championships. Check. For next year speculation, does the goal become:

Win the Big South with at least 7 DI wins and earn a postseason birth. [or]

Win the Big South with at least 7 DI wins, earn a postseason birth and win a first rounder.

A team like Elon?

Elon was not a bad team by any means.

A loss to W and M hurt worse. 3 Total losses hurt worse. Not closing out a game we should and could have won hurts worse.

All but 4 (i think) teams had a loss of some kind. Ours were worse, combined with our not as good wins.

You can't blame the committee. We all knew after we lost to both W&M and Elon, we were long shots. Congrats to the guys on a great year. Next year: win Big South, AND make playoffs.

Was it this year or last year that coach reportedly turned down a chance to play Appy State? A win there would surely have helped us in the rankings.

I think that was last year. Our schedule will begin to turn "a corner" next year.

what i see in the matchups is how wofford got screwed. they won the SoCon and were shipped to montana. i know the schools can bid on being a host, but that's just wrong.
