If we roll over GWC on Saturday, winning the BSC title outright, is there any way we don't get at least in the mix for one of the at large bids? I think the answer is we will get consideration.

Our schedule will be our biggest hindrance. However, if there was ever a year for a team with less than seven Div I wins to get in, it's this year. If we can win, and win convincingly, we have a very good case. We might get sent to the middle of nowhere, but we can make a case. If we win and some of the other teams lose, we have an even better chance. We've got a shot.

I would like to think that we have a chance but realistically we do not. We actually lost ground in the rankings that were out today since we beat a very bad VMI team. A win over GW won't do much to get us some recognition since they have not beaten anyone of significance. Another thing that is hurting us is the fact that Elon and W & M are loosing. Elon is now 6-4 with no chance of getting in the playoffs and W & M I think is around 500. The Toledo near miss should get us some respect but it was that (a near miss) and not the blockbuster win we need to get some consideration.

Steve, you're just wrong. Flat out wrong. You have no clue what you're talking about. What poll did we drop in? Tell me that. You're making stuff up just to talk crap about our schedule since you hate it.

As is stated in another thread, we ARE (if we win) one of the teams that will be under consideration for an at large bid...
...my feeling is we need a HUGE convincing win.

His comment about Elon and W&M is correct. Those losses aren't looking as respectable as they did at the time. On a side note, did we ever even resolve our little coverage problem that we had or did teams just stop exploiting it? I'm assuming G-W will give it a testing.

We need a big win and a few losses from other teams. If we make it in, we'll likely be going down to Wofford for a first round game. It'd be there or UMass.

One thing that you need to remember is Moose Koegel (Coastal's AD) is on the selection committee. He's likely going to be fighting for us hard since it represents our conference positively.

We're the #2 ranked scoring offense in the country.

We have Top 5 Kick Returners and Punt Returners.

We're in the top 25 in most offensive categories.

We're near the top in turnover margin.

We've got a case.

Is it a completey arbitrary decision that the comittee makes or are there some RPI/BCS like formulas they use along with them lobbying?

It's mainly the committee. They bring in the other things as well (GPI, Sagarin, polls, etc) but it's completely up to the committee.

If we do happen to get in we need a heck of a lot of help from other teams but the odds are clearly against us even getting considered. The word is that 5 teams from the Colonial is a possiblity with 4 definate so that does not leave much room aside from those getting an auto bid. I am not sure what poll I saw in this mournings paper but it was on the front page of the DE News Journal since they cover UD but I remember last week that we were 3 spots from getting in and now we are about 10 spots from the top 25 with teams getting votes. Not sure I agree with that but that is what I saw.

Wow. You couldn't be more wrong. The CAA is getting three, maybe four teams. There's no way they'd get five. The SoCon is getting two, possibly three.

The Sagarin came out yesterday and we moved up. The GPI comes out today. We didn't drop in anything. You're just making up stuff.

And in that poll we got significantly more votes than last week. He still makes no sense.

Yes, that is the poll that I am referring to and I believe that we were higher last week. I hope that the Colonial does not get 5 even though 5 teams might be deserving for how tough that conference has been. I am only going on what I have seen on other posting boards (Univ of DE's).

Five teams in the CAA don't deserve it. If Delaware loses this weekend, chances are, they might not even make it.

How can we be worse if we're receiving 2-3 times as many votes than last week?

read the article inside this page....

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/default.as ... he_fcs.htm

But the Bulldogs (ranked 37th by the GPI) probably would be undone by a weak non-conference schedule. Prairie View (ranked 66th) could also finish with three losses, but the Panthers are in the same boat with scheduling.

Another team of that caliber would be Liberty, which can finish 8-3 with wins over VMI and Gardner-Webb that would give it the Big South title. But the Flames (ranked 29th) have two non-Division-I victories.

With those teams pretty much eliminated from the discussion, that leaves us with about 16 teams that will be battling for eight slots. And those 16 teams will be trimmed further by the end of play Saturday night.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if we win, and win big, we will be the conference champions of the 7th rated FCS conference. That says something for us getting in.

I really have to lean toward my homie STEVEV on this one. We really needed that loss to Elon to be a good one.

Aside from that- the W&M loss is a KILLER: bad, bad, bad- and I don't think the Toledo game is a factor.

I hope we're both wrong, though.

Will Koegel even be allowed to be in the room when our name comes up? I read in the ESPN article last year where they did a "Mock Selection Committee" that members of schools from the same conference had to leave whenever it came up.

Let me be clear when I say that I would love to see us get in. I'd make every effort to travel to the game if we did. It would be completely awesome.

However, I don't think we get in. Not happening. We didn't get in in '97 and we won't get in now. That season we were 9-2 with wins over #19 Cal Poly, #15 App State (in Boone) and our only two losses were to #21 Hofstra and #25 Hampton (in OT). If that wasn't a strong enough schedule to get us in, I just have a feeling that we're not getting in this season either.

Even our 7-3 team back in 89 didn't get in with wins over E Michigan, #13 E Illinois, and JMU. That was probably our best chance as was the 9-2 team.

Is it a long shot? Yes, it is. To say we have absolutely no chance is completely asinine, and that's putting it nicely.

In 97 we were an independent, and that hurt more than anything. Now we're in a conference that is 7th in the country. We may not get an auto bid, but if we win every conference game by an average of 20-25 in the 7th rated conference in the country, we've got a shot.

Oh I agree that it helps and our situation now is better than it was then. I'm not saying there's not a chance. I'm just saying that it won't happen. If it does, I'll gladly go to the game and eat crow at the tailgate. I'm just trying to be pragmatic and, most of all, not get my hopes up.

You may be right about our chances but there's no correlation between today and 1997. We were an independent then and the selection committee in any given year was only taking one independent team. In '97, that was Hofstra. Florida Atlantic proved that you don't have to have a good schedule to get in.
