until this gets spun into Liberty endorses Huckabee? I hope not...I like what the brothers have said in response to the question of who they would endorse publicly when interviewed.
$.02: If the "leaders" of the Christian Right would support Ron Paul (traditional Republican ideals), then you'd have a candidate who would pull many conservative democrats, many if not most of the independents, the more moderate Republicans and, if they would get on board, the proverbial Christian Right voting bloc. That would provide a tough contest for what the Dems are likely to put up. I know tons of democrats who absolutely loathe Clinton.
I know the abortion topic is the hot one and the idea of being able to appoint a justice is a key reason. Think about this though, RP is an OB-GYN, who has a personal faith and is a citizen-politician. It stands to reason that having a person who knows the medical ins and outs of life would be very appealing to those who use that as their only voting litmus test. (Remember, GB had 8 years to make headway on that topic, and...)
Also, another thing to ponder, other than the so-called "Christian Right" (since I guess we all think the same concerning political candidates), I find it difficult to believe that the moderate conservatives (i.e. fiscal conservatives), independents and conservative dems are going to vote for a preacher-politician. Talk about the tired "separation of church and state" inflammatory cliche becoming topic numero uno on CNN, FOXNews, CNBC and all of talk radio, that should be fun to watch. I don't think that should be an automatic disqualifier, I'm merely bringing up an observation of what the dems will zero in on and exploit ad nauseam...If the Republican Nominee can't draw the independent voting bloc, a Dem will take the Oval Office come January '09.
Several Christian conservative leaders gravitating toward Huckabee__________________________________________
Several Christian conservative leaders, troubled by the appearance the movement is divided, are moving toward Republican Mike Huckabee in hopes of making him the consensus candidate of the religious right...
..."What you're seeing is a huge coalescing around Huckabee," said Kelly Shackelford of the Plano-based Liberty Legal Institute. "The vast percentage of pro-family leaders in the nation are going for Huckabee."
The Huckabee campaign is expected to announce the endorsement of several social conservative leaders, including Christian radio host Janet Folger and Matthew Staver, dean of the law school at Liberty University founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell...

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.--John Quincy Adams
