For the Alumni

GMTM said he made this comparision first but its almost scary how some of our current players game resembles a few recent alumni who brought home a Big South Championship.

Ohman = Ryan Mantlo - I was honestly floored by this kid. If he keeps playing like he did last night ( gritty, fearless, emotional) no way you can keep him off the floor for long

Smith = Gabe Martin = Smith looks to have improved his hops, and he was money from deep last night. If he can develop those lane slashing dunks like Martin he is going to be fun. Note= He got way up like gabe on a few of those dunks.

Bannister = Woodson - WIth the quick passes he makes and and slashing moves these two are very similar. I think TJ will be a better shooter but i did notice he dribbles the ball with is right hand very high and i think better teams will notice this as well.

As for the comparisons, thats it......but one final thought. I can't tell you how bad Russ looked last night. He looked completly lost, he tried to fall down and take a charge from a kid who was 5'8'' and that actin job was awful. He got beat on a spin move by a kid 6-8" shorter than him twice i think and overall i saw 0 positives. Im sure there was more but im out of time for now.

Yup. The first year the girls sat down there, they won, and they've won ever since. Why not try to steal some of that mojo?

But the question SCAR wants to know is, which current player most resembled him? :)

One of the things I noticed last night was how professional the team just looked. Last year, I remember complaining about the longer, baggier shorts and the "thug" appearance. This year, there's none of that. The uniforms actually fit the players, the shorts are the right length, the jerseys aren't oversized and baggy. Everything just looks like a first-class program. The warmups are awesome.

Coach McKay's comments after the game (from LibertyFlames.com):
Ritchie McKay’s Quotes

"Tonight was a really good win. I really like this Barton squad. They are use to winning and are tremendously coached. They have good players and did a great job of coming back from double-digit deficits. I was encouraged by the fact we were able to win the game and happy with how we were able to come down the court at the end of the game without using a timeout, execute a play and get back on defense to prevent a shot at the buzzer."

"Barton created a hard match up for us, as they essentially had five guards on the floor. We had to go small, but I was pleased with the win."

"The great thing about playing an exhibition game against a team like Barton is that we learned what our weaknesses are, as we were exposed by some things tonight."

The highlighted comments really demonstrate that Coach McKay knows how to coach: he has instilled confidence in his players and is, in turn, confident in them making the right decision for the final shot and final defensive stand. And in the second quote, McKay, the teacher, will show his players how to make adjustments to improve their game as a team.

I never have been one to enjoy players showing out....but I gotta admit...I reealllly enjoyed the pregame intros and watching the players all do something different like they are T.O. or something, it was pretty cool

The only thing that I don't care for in the uniforms is that the Liberty logo is right in the center of their buttocks. :oops:

I think the word "Liberty" would've looked a lot better than the actually logo. It wouldn't have been nearly as big.

Good Win,
Coach Mckay........... WOOOOO HOOOOOOO, im excited..........
Kyle= intense.
Teejay=playmaker,
Rell= Same goofy Waddle Defense, but its good,
ACE= missed lots of easy buckets second half, and missed lots of defensive rebounds
Jenkins= will be a good sixth man, better on offense than D
Assistant coaches= handle the bench very well, i love that they encourage more than discourage, practice is where you should do the majority of the coaching

Question, Is anyone else really pleased with the attitude of this team. I think that it will take us along way. Talent might not be what it was last year, but the attitude from the coaches down to the last player on the bench. We have no TUDES this year. I think this will win us lots of Games. The bench is standing and cheering the guys on the floor are not complaining to the officials, and most of all The relationship with the coach is great. I feel this will lead to lots of victories.

Offensive rebounds may equate to the fact that Barton was shooting a lot of 3's. ??? Not there just a guess.

We were in poor position, or no position at all, on several equations.

But there were a few long rebounds that came right to them, too.

At least something like this can be coached. Dissapointing considering Barton is so small.

Congratulations on a good win. A big play now and then (i.e. like the final play) can make all the dif in a game and season.

I noticed the similarities between Woodson and Bannister too, however, Teejey is a lot quicker in getting the ball where it needs to go. It almost looked as he was just loafing around (granted--due to the foot injury he's probably not in game shape) but at one point he looked over to his dad who told him to look for his shot and he immediately got down the floor and created an easy basket for himself. He's going to be something special to watch.

Everything else that has been said I agree on. Armon was awful in the few minutes he was out there--he was tugging at his shorts and standing flat-footed the entire time. He or Russ really needs to step up.

I was so impressed with the way Ohman played last night. He is so intense on defense and is an amazing shot from the three. I really think he is going to be an "X" factor for are team...amazing 6th man.
