True...but we have to have increased womens sports numbers to justify adding any more men's sports. This is why I think the school will add a couple high counter women's sports so hockey can make the move in 5-10 years.

Field Hockey makes more sense as LU is in a hotbed of Field Hockey talent in the Mid-Atlantic region.

But I'm all for Lax coming back...especially if they could also get a men's team up and running again in the distant future. (after NCAA hockey of course.)

Liberty is a gold mine for Men's Lax and Women's Lax. But the people in places that could make that happen are clueless. Dr Falwell himself told me he could see that Lacrosse would do good at LU back in 2004 but nothing ever got done about it and bringing NCAA Lacrosse for both Men and Women to LU. For Women's Lax you are located close enough to to Baltimore/ Washington area which is a powerhouse region for the sport in both Men's and Women's Lax along with having so many Students that come from other places on the Eastern seaboard like Philadelphia, New York and Long Island and New England and all those kids from Canada. Don't forget those kids from Canada can play Lacrosse just as good as they play Hockey.

Now as of the last 2-3 years North Carolina has High School Lacrosse as a varsity sprot and so does the state of Georgia so there are some quality southern Players that could come to LU from the Bible belt and even Texas is developing some great High School Lax. So with so many of these students from these regions of the country attending LU there is no excuse why Liberty could not be a powerhose on the NCAA level in both Men's and Women's Lacrosse. The Powers that run LU and their Athletic Department need to make up their mind and put forth and the effort and build it. If they do that it will be a success and I have no doubt LU could win a National Championship in the future in both Men's and Women's Lacrosse. Just my two cents. to be honest, I don't think LU will be able to win a championship at the D1 lax level. look at who all the top teams typcically are: ivy leagues, schools like bucknell, uva, duke, unc. what do they all have in common? top notch, upper echelon academics. no insult intended on LU'a academics, but they just aren't on the same level as those schools.

also you have to take into account that a lot of HS players not only consider D1 schools to play for, a lot of GOOD high school players consider top notch D3 and D2 programs. so not only would LU have to compete in recruiting against the likes of UVA, Duke, etc. but they would have to compete with top D3 programs like Salisbury, Gettysburg, Cortland, Nazareth, Middlebury, Roanoke, Lynchburg, etc. and the cream of the crop in D2 that includes Mercyhurst, Limestone, and LeMoyne. As a matter of fact, it was either last year's recruiting class or this year's incoming recruiting class, but Salisbury brought in more HS all-americans than any other team in the country, and they are a D3 school.

another major factor to consider is that D1 lacrosse is dwindling in size every year, every year D1 schools are dropping lacrosse because it costs so much money to finance and because of Title IX regulations.

i'm sure you know more about D1 lacrosse since you coach at a D1 school, but that's just my take on it...

You have to take into account scholarships. My cousin, who has been searching for a college is very good at this sport. However, even the big schools do not give out very many full rides for lacrosse. Most of these athletes pay their own way. We've got all kinds of other creative scholarships.

Very good point! That would give LU an advantage, how much I have no idea, but what about the academics? It seems to me that most of the cream of the crop HS players (meaning future D1 all-americans, for example) want to go to the best academic schools and at schools like Harvard with their insanely huge endowments - if what I've been told is true - a lot of kids that go there dont really have to pay much to begin with because the endowment covers a lot of their expenses.

Kentucky, Lax is fastest growing sport in the country and is now played in places like Florida and Georgia and Denver, Salt Lake City, Phoenix, All over Texas, Montana and we even have a small High School League in Albuquerque. These places did not have any Lacrosse of any kind 5-10 years ago. There is just not enough varsity slots out there for all these kids to play College ball and that is why the Club programs have developed to varsity and NCAA level. Every year at the National Lacrosse Coaches convention in Philadelphia they discuss how the sport can grow in light of Title 9 issues and every year it is the same old song and dance with US Lacrosse and the NCAA. The bottom line is the sport is bigger then the box people want to put it in. Sooner or later the Title 9 issues will be worked out and there will be College Lacrosse from coast to coast in the NCAA. When that will happen I don't know but I do believe that day will come.

As for money for Students it is very hard to get an Scholarship in Lacrosse but again if some things can open up with the governing body of Lacrosse which is US Lacrosse and the NCAA you may see the sport really take off. It already, even in the NCAA D1 Schools that have Lacrosse it is the third best money maker of any sport on those campuses that Have NCAA Division 1 Lacrosse behind Football and Basketball. In some cases like Johns Hopkins it is the biggest money maker of Men's NCAA Sports on campus.

Yes, you would have to compete with Duke, UVA and so on to get LU up to speed but there is plenty of talent out there looking for a home and plenty of Christian Players that would come to LU if they had a NCAA Team to play on. FCA has a special Lacrosse ministrey and you could recruit right out of that. My point is LU could do it and build a great program if the powers in the Athletic Department put their hearts into it. About 10-15 years ago Norte Dame did not have much of a Lacrosse program but today the Irish have one of the best Lacrosse programs in the NCAA. It can be done just LU needs to be driven and there are plenty of Christian Players from the East and around Country that would come to LU if they made that commitment to such a program. Thanks Flamedad, El Scorcho I can take a joke but brother your comments in the past have crossed the line and have been personal. That said I am willing to move on. On LU Lacrosse if the right people take interest in it the sky's the limit what can be done in this sport in both Women's and Men's Lacrosse at LU.

From laxman: FCA has a special Lacrosse ministrey and you could recruit right out of that.

The FCA program is the best kept secret in lacrosse and maybe in youth sports up to college.
Go to any youth lacrosse game, especially U15 or U13, and you will see an FCA helmet patch.
The nature of the close-knit lax community lends itself to this type of ministry.
Their camps attract top talent.
