well if it had been gillispie i would have been 100% sold on this kid. tubby didn't seem to recruit well (other than the class that brought in rando and others, but they underperformed). regardless, if this kid was a former kentucky recruit, he better put up some numbers.

kentucky--it sounds like you are anti-Tubby (4 Elite 8's, 6 Sweet 16's, 5 SEC Tourney Crowns and Three-time national coach of the year). It also sounds like you don't have a strong knowledge base of Carter McMaster's abilities. I know, Waffle House can do that to a person. But it's kind of like this:
a). Bruce Pearl and Tennessee were interested in McMasters and we all know that UT finished ahead of UK in the SEC.
b). Billie Gillispie (great coach) had the following to say about Coach McKay: "Ritchie is a great friend of mine and a fantastic coach." Hat-tip to the Liberty 2007-08 Media Guide--which is very nice looking by the way. Coach McKay came in at the last moment and grabbed McMasters.

So there is a kind-of 4 Degrees of Separation at work here:
1. Tubby was interested in McMasters
2. Billie replaced Gopher Tubby
3. Billie endorses Ritchie
4. Ritchie recruits Carter

Which all means, that UK still hasn't won piddly in years and Gilliespie will change that sooner rather than later. AND Liberty will enjoy the playing performance of McMasters. Go Flames.

and your point is? won more than Liberty, that I know (sorry, but the Kentucky insults came first!)

kentucky--not trying to be insulting. Waffle House reference because I spent waay too much time there in college and first four years of marriage. You just seemed to have a strong dislike for Tubby and I think Carter will be a great player at Liberty. He comes from good stock--his dad was a tenacious a player in college as anyone I've seen on the court--and Kentucky will be more than fine with Billie and the Gophers will be fine with Tubby. No hard feelings. Go Flames.

i didn't mind tubby at all actually. he was a fine coach, i just didn't agree with the way he recruited, he seemed to rely too much on the assistants trying to bring the players in. the rondo/morris/crawford/bradley class was one of the finest recruiting classes in all of college that year, they just didn't pan out as well as expected.

by the way, i'm looking forward to Liberty mens hoops next year based on what the talent sounds like that will be coming in. this year i'm not sure on, i'll have to see the results of some games against quality opponents (aka not kentucky christian or longwood)

I don't think anyone is sure about this year, but that's okay. It's Coach McKay's first year and we'll take what we can get. I think it'll be the kind of year where we'll just show whatever support we can to start building for the future. Although I know we have a few fans who don't believe in such support methodologies.

With a nucleus of TeeJay, Anthony, and Alex, I'm not writing this season off just yet. All that matters at this point in our program's history is conference play, and I think by time we get there Coach will have these guys ready to make a run at the title. I don't think we will win, but I'm not counting on a 6th place finish either.

looking forward to the season, as well- but still amused by the shots at Longwood- who, I might remind everyone, has been beating our men's hoops teams like rented mules at their house for the last 2 yrs. I'd just be happy if we could sweep them this season!

I'm not sure how this thread turned into a discussion of Billy Clyde but count me among those who believe Kentucky made a bad hire.

As for Carter, he's a baller who can play anywhere he likes as far as I am concerned. Glad he's going to be a Flame.

longwood has a former Lynchburg College player on the team. I think that says enough about the quality of team longwood is.

I think you're mistaken SJ, his name is kentuckywildcats. He's from Kentucky and says things like "that's right nice". Also, he's covering his tracks because he's most likely a terrorist.

OK, it's a minor thing, but I noticed that everyone has started referring to Carter's height as 6'11". Has he grown an inch? If he is still growing, maybe we will have our program's first 7 footer.

He towered over all of our players.....if he wasn't, then WOW, he was the tallest 6'11 kid I have ever seen

Well, he played about 6'4". I guess I shouldn't be hard on him. He wasn't even close to healthy when he was here.
