I think I can tell you why the band did not play...every time-out the music was piped over the PA...and it would have drowned the band out. BTW...I thought the students did a great job showing the band appreciation at half-time.

We may criticize, but we're still there supporting them. That's what BJ doesn't get when he starts complaining about the criticizing.

Your probably right Jon...at the end of the day, people may be criticizing, people may be finding stuff the band needs to work on, but at the end of the day, even with all that, the folks still applaud, and they still support the work the band is doing. I'll mellow out soon enough

BJ...quick question. Have the teal shirts been addressed?

Umm...no...they are still teal...I don't know what the turnaround time and cost for 200 new shirts in a different color (namely red) of varying sizes from small to XXL would be.

Well that's the cost of stupid decisions. I know the athletic department isn't happy at all about the color of the shirts.

Well as was noted in the other discussion...the band is getting new shirts in time for the next home game...and we are working on some new stands tunes from some movies you may be familiar with...

WEll after a lot of time and effort (and some BIG OL stink raised by fans on this board) and adversity, the show will finally be finished today and we're gonna have some fun fun visuals for the next home game. Yes it would have been ideal to have the show ready to go every single set on the field for the first game, but things happen (injuries, illness, bad weather, class schedules, etc.) and I think you will thoroughly enjoy the show next weekend.

Thanks for the sense of humor PA. Actually we're working on some nice little visuals from some of the sections when they are not moving (which is not all that often in the last tune)

They don't move in the last song and you still couldn't get it on the field?

Actually there is a lot of movement in the last song. What I mean is that there are parts where like part of the band is on the move and part is holding for like 3 bars or so and so the section leaders were tasked with adding some visuals for when their particular seciton is holding. I reiterate that I would have liked to see the entire show ready to go on the field the first game myself

1. Wth the tremendous popularity and diversity of christian music why can't we actually have christian music?
2. If we can't have inaginative christian music why couldn't we have some actual marching music. What gets you pumped up On Wisconson or My Fair Lady? Be honest - 90% of this theme music just doesn't translate to the playing field. I don't go to a football game to see a broadway show etc. Jazz isn't spirit, Broadway isn't spirit, hip hop isn't spirit etc.
3. That said the band is actually big enought to be heard now and is executing their movement very well.
4. That said the Basketball pep band music absolutely sucks most of the time.

Thanks Sly. The announcer actually started reading the names at the wrong spot in the pregame, but Dr Kerr was waving from the field to get him to stop. When the time came, each person stepped out, waved the the Baptist side, then to the student side. I tacked on a bow to the students.

Well the 2007 marching band season is a fond memory. I will say that I enjoyed my 5 years in the band. I met some amazing people, got to hear and play some great music (I was a cymbal player my first year in the band in 2003), traveled to one of the nicest places in Myrtle Beach, SC twice, and even with the issues, got to be a part of the growth of the band. My hope and prayer is that as the band grows, the mission to glorify God through music and marching is never compromised, even as student leadership changes, and even as instructors change (no Im not insinuating anything so don't even go there). I would like to see the band play some more popular songs in the stands, and hopefully there will be more opportunities to travel either as a standalone or with the football team. I know I get a lot of grief for being one of those pro-band guys on here but I will say that I look forward to being an observer of the band now that my time as a part of the band is at an end.

Well I just got an email from Dr Kerr a few moments ago (he sent one out ot all the members of the band):

Marching Band:

I am excited to announce our new fall show today! We will ‘unveil’ our plans for this fall during Wind Ensemble rehearsal. This exciting news will be shared at approximately 4:35 p.m., at the end of rehearsal.

I hope you will be able to slip by for this news. The officers and drum majors have worked diligently on plans, including many ideas gathered from fellow members to put together a fine show for this fall.

This is going to be the best fall ever in the Liberty University Marching Band!!

Yours,

Dr. Stephen Kerr
Director of Bands
Liberty University

Hopefully the show is as good as he is hyping it to be

There are seven games next year. Please, for the love of God, as awesome as that show could be, please tell me we're not stuck with it for seven games.

I would think so. I would like to do a couple different shows next year but what is nice at least is that we're doin something different with the music and the theme

I didnt get to this before school got out but the band right now is looking at easily over 200 playing members for 2008 (which will hopefully allow for some real nice looking stuff on the field and maybe some more songs in the stands)
