Didn't see this anywhere... it's getting intense.
SAN DIEGO — A dozen wildfires that had displaced at least 300,000 people in Southern California Tuesday burned more than 1,000 homes and businesses in the San Diego area alone as federal officials lent their support to the firefighting efforts.

By day three, the wildfires had set 245,957 acres — 384 square miles — ablaze, and the destruction may only be the start for the region. Tuesday's forecast called for hotter temperatures and more explosive Santa Ana gusts.

"We're facing at least another 24 hours of very bad conditions from the standpoint of firefighting and we're going to hope that we can ride that out and then be effective in responding to depress any further fire contagion," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said.

This is really serious business. It even is effecting my trip to Lynchburg is some regard. The NFL is trying to figure out what they are going to do about Sunday afternoon's Texans-Chargers game. They may push it back to Monday or move it to a different city (Glendale?). Its one of the late games and if they push it back to Sunday night or Monday, I might be able to push my flight back enough to go to church Sunday morning at Thomas Rd.

So, hooray for wildfires.

I was watching it on the news yesterday. It's really unlike anything I've ever seen before. One minute there's nothing, then there's just a little brush fire on the outskirts of your porperty that seemly came from nowhere, and then a few minutes later, the house is engulfed in flames. They were just driving down a few streets and there was like that house is on fire, that ones cool, that one is fine, that ones roof is on fire, and so forth.

I have a good friend who lives in one of the burnt neighorhoods...at least 21 out of 60 homes gone...but not his as of last night. He's been out of town on business and will just be getting back to see what's left sometime today. His ex-wife and son had to evacuate their house, too.

I just got an email from my buddy...
..the fire made it to his backyard but did not touch his house.

Here is his description:
But the TV is not doing it justice... flying into SD was like going into hell.... There are literally a 100 miles of fires on the East county and Smoke that make thunderheads look like nothing.... there were dozens of smoke stacks that made you think there were dozens of volcanos all erupting... I've never seen anything to compare but a bad movie depicting the surface of Venus.....

David Justice lost his home. He lives in the same neighborhood as LT and Phil Nevin.

There are some sweet satalite photos out there. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/ ... guest.html

Or go to refdesk.com, down in the photo section, and it seems like all the image sites have pictures of what's going on. The NOAA actually has a timed image so you can see how the smoke is moving.
