Did anyone catch the last episode of Boston Legal? Someone stopped me to ask what I thought but I didnt even know it happened...was there anything to it?

They said it was about 2 minutes long and strictly negative towards JF

Who knows, it's easy to say things now about someone who can no longer oppose you

Yea, I saw it.

The Candice Bergman character got a little preachy, chiding society in general for not fully accepting gays and making them uncomfortable to come out of their closets. In one of her points, she mentions Jerry's funeral. She said something to the effect of ... we live in a society that celebrates people like Jerry Falwell by throwing him a state funeral ... which supresses the validation of the gays and keeps them in their closets.

Her statements were ridiculous on two levels. One, Jerry was never thrown a state funeral. Secondly, he was assailed and slandered by the press from the day that he died and up until several weeks after the funeral. The way that they tried to spin that is comical, but the show is kind of a dark comedy anyhow, so I doubt that very many people took any of it seriously.

He was slandered and assailed by some of the media. For the record, some did stand up for him.

True, a few in the media did stand up. ....hardly no one in the mainstream media, but several pundits had some nice things to say.... a few entertainers as well... DR Phil and Faith Hill come to mind.

The point is that the Boston Legal episode was pretty twisted in that they seemed to imply that Falwell was celebrated by society as a whole and even given a state funeral... on the contrary JF was largely misrepresented and satirized by the press and the non-thinking public. The media did everything that they could to make the man into a caricature and an object for so-called progressive ridicule.

ok, there were those in the media that took their shots at Dr. Falwell, but I would say that for the most part (I'd say 70/30) the media paid their respects to JF...I don't know how many times I heard, " I didn't agree with a lot of things....but...he was a good man"

I swear some people have their mind made up about the media that they fail to see when they do something right

Now, if you were watching mostly Fox News programming, then I can understand how you came up with your 70/30 ratio. The other networks, on average, weren't nearly as kind. I would say that the constant exaggerated references to 911 and Tinky Winky were rather contemptuous and not respectful at all.

it depends on what your opinion is on "paying respects" I never heard on CNN or any other news station about good things JF did but rather..."JF is known for starting Moral Majority and publicly against homosexuals" or whatever else they'd say

back to topic...thats a shame Boston Legal said something, it just seemed a little out of place...but whatever

I am sure whatever was said on Boston Legal was out of place....

I am not one to stick up for the media, but they were far more respectful for Jerry Falwell then they ever had been before after his death....

ps...Fox News is a joke...don't get me started about their "fair and balanced" reporting....I don't remember the last time I watched them

If your talking about Hannity or O'Reilly.........maybe a lil bias...okay very bias....

However, they are NOT news cast........they are personalities....

Fox is the most fair and balanced......I still watch CNN more, but that is mostly because I lean to the left

there is no such thing as fair and balanced anymore...if there was ever a such thing...every news outlet leans one way or another...if you don't see that, then I don't know if there is anything I can say that will change your mind.

take away Hannity, and O'Reilly out of the equation, tell me where the bias comes from.......

any newscast you hear on there...its very conservative leaning...of course they don't give their opinions like Hannity and O'Reilly...like I said, if you don't see it, I don't think I am going to change your mind....I just wish there was a truly fair and balanced news source without a bend towards one side or ther other...but this is how this country is..

I'm not sure that that's even possible.

Boston Legal is always very liberal, so this isn't anything shocking. Even if they have to defend a conservative idea, they do it in a very backhanded way, talking out of both sides of their mouths and trying to make conservatives look like idiots. It's a very entertaining show, but also very frustrating, with the writers' main goal to put forth an obvious liberal agenda.

Generally, I like Boston Legal. I've been watching it for a couple of years now and, while it's written from a liberal point of view it is, at least entertainingly so and they have generally acknowledged that the conservative viewpoint has some validity. However, this season, they seem to be going out of their way to preach at their viewers. Spader's character has dropped any pretense of humor and jumps straight into the election year rhetoric.
It's become completely boring to me which is not something I would have thought possible.

Interesting (ironic) fact: the Pulitzer Prize, which recognizes excellence in the field of journalism, is named for Joseph Pulitzer, one of the original fathers of "yellow journalism".

I didn't mean they were completely unbalanced

I stand to the left, but CNN, NBC, ABC, and CBS are way to the left...and Fox is just a little right
