I know the schedule isnt usually released until December or so, but does anyone know if they might release it earlier this year or if they know of any potential big name teams that have already been scheduled?

Very little of the schedule has been released. The Athletic Media Relations Office will release the schedule once it is complete. My understanding is that there is some on-going negotiation within the conference schools in setting dates. VMI is the only one who has released theirs, to my understanding.

No need to wait that long....Here it is

The Liberty Flames will begin their 2008 baseball campaign against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at the Clearwater Invitational, in a schedule released today by head coach Jim Toman.

Toman’s Flames will open the season on Feb. 22 at the Clearwater Invitational against Notre Dame. Liberty will also face Albany (Feb. 23) and Iowa (Feb. 24) at the Clearwater, Fla., tournament

I wonder if our own Red Dog had anything to do with the trip to Hattiesburg?

I'm disappointed in no trips to the Lone Star State otherwise it looks great.

Come on here. For the last two years all I have read about is how easy the schedule is?????

Where's all the posters now??

This schedule is no where as strong as in years past - some big names - yeah, but not big baseball schools.

Let's get the chatter going!!

Why am I not surprised this subject came up

...Proto...you have a very valid point. The two invitationals gets us 3 decent schools...but I was truly hoping for more ACC games. Rider, Army, and Columbia are not the types of teams that will bring out the locals to get excited about Flames baseball. Hopefully, if we get a stadium built, that will change.

what is wrong with the schedule?? we are facing five teams that made the NCAA tournament this past year,(coastal, VCU, albany, southern miss, UVA) plus a perennial solid team in Notre Dame. we are playing most of the good in-state schools and then a few series against the cupcakes. yes i would like to see some more ACC or SEC games, but it is what it is. in the 06 season we only faced three teams that went to the tournament (winthrop, UNCA, south carolina). im sure toman will have a better schedule next year, but this year's slate is not bad.

I did not say it was bad...just not what I expected. It points out the NEED to get a stadium on campus where we can perhaps draw better teams in.

Is this the best schedule...no...but I dont think its anywhere close to 2 years ago

But with that being said, I wouldnt complain if it was the SAME schedule as 2 years ago...new coach's do this to get adjusted to their team and such...look at Football....I'm sure it'll intensify in 2 years

Nothing wrong with the schedule. A new stadium won't draw any better teams. If we are getting UVA and VaTech in at our place (by memory not sure), we can get almost anyone in. I think it is a good foundation to build upon.

Just want to let everyone know that it's a good schedule to you guys - but 98% of it was put together by the past coach. I'm just saying it's funny how the post go depending on the coach involved. I'm just saying.

Try not to be so transparent.
I suppose you are going to give Royer all the credit for any success the team enjoys this year, too...
...just as you will give RD any credit for any MBB success.

I hate it then!

kidding kidding

Honestly though if MR was still the head coach I prob would have more of a problem (not that big though) simply b/c he has been our HC for a while and has established himself....if we have this same one in 3 years you'll hear me say the same thing about JT

Of course most of this schedule was put together by MR, with the exception of a few games maybe. It is a good feeling to be able to look at this year as well as many years to come with the view of great success ahead. If all goes well, it looks like this feeling of hope could become a reality. I am excited to see what is to come.

No disrespect to MR, but it seems as if Toman has made more strides in the past few months than MR did his whole time here (especially in regard to the player/coach relationship)

What can I say Fumble - I'm a loyal person:)

Call it a flaw, but I stick with the people who have fault the battles and push the programs to new hights. Just because they were let go for other reasons - won't change that.

Your young, and probably haven't been around LU for that long to see where the programs have come and yes - Dunton and Royer did a lot to get us here. Can others take the torch, yes, but I personally didn't like the way either was treated by administration or this board. I'm not bitter - it is what it is, but be sure that I will defend them to the end.

Don't be deceaved - I agree with you, but let's see when Jimmy doesn't get the playing time he thinks he deserves or Mikey doesn't get to start and gets religated to the pen. Right now - its not that hard to make enemies. Give it time;)

I will support Toman and the Baseball program, anyone who knows me - knows that, but I will always defend friends.

If Toman got let go today for a reason that wasn't jusified - I would defend him too.

Proto...I admire loyalty...and you certainly are loyal to your friends. I find nothing wrong with that. We just agree to disagree in this particular case. This is Big Boy baseball, now, and those who sons are not getting the PT are just going to have to deal with it...even more so with the new roster restrictions and transfer rules.

You have got to be joking right otherwise i think you just lost a lot of credibility. Do you mean to tell me Toman automatically represents "big boy " baseball and royer didn't? If you are trying to tell me there was that much of a difference between you the two you have officially lost your mind( as far as credentials go). And if you go around telling other faculty that, im embarrased for the university as well. Loyalty is one thing to compliment but lunancy needs to be pointed out as well.
