I have general idea what everyone thinks on this board, but without just laughing and mocking at AlGore, I'm wondering how everyone really feels about the issue.

You don't have to watch mainstream news and the weather channel to realize that Global Warming is now a religion. The weather channel and news media has been dreaming of hurricanes all season only to be stuck with non-tropical entities which they now routinely over-hype. I really think its funny that since AlGore said Katrina was caused by Global Warming, and the weather channel basically came to the same conclusion, (that things will be much worse from now on) that the last two hurricane seasons have been basically non-existant.

I have not heard any of the current Republican candidates say much about the topic. Its like they are walking on egg shells. I know they are all trying to be "energy" conscious or so it seems. Meanwhile, Rush Limbaugh basicall believes the whole idea is hoax dreamed up for political purposes.

I guess I side closer to Rush on this one, even though I do believe the earth is getting warmer, I don't think its a catastrophe. I believe the manmade CO2 has a minute effect on climate change and the earth will ultimately regulate itself.

Below is a link citing some of the mistakes made in AlGore's movie, "An incovenient truth."

I think it was too hot last week.

I think that I like people taking a little time to realize how wasteful we can be with resources.

I think we haven't been keeping data on weather long enough to know if this is a normal cycle or not, but I'm skeptical of it being caused by us.

I think I'm really just glad Algore invented the Interweb so we could talk about it.

The earth's temperature on average is about one degree warmer than it was a century ago.

didn't we already have this thread one time? But who's counting. Not as many people sit here staring at flamefans.com from 7-5 everyday like I do.

I think we did. It's a "hotter" topic (pun intended) now and much more irritating to me. So I thought I'd bring it up again.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with the "Global Warming" issue (and I don't think I do) but I do think there has been a small climate change in recent years, but that is cyclical. It's being warmer in October and November than it used to be, and the past 2-3 years it's been warm in January-February but freezing the entire month of March with spring not really happening til late April/early May.

My grandmother swears climate change is a result of the Apollo landings on the moon. She thinks it knocked the moon slightly off its axis and is now slowly dooming us all.

I would agree with her, but we all know the moon landing happened in a tv studio.

If your serious that your grandma thinks that please let's do lunch sometime...I be she'd be a blast hearing what all conspiracies exist!

I dont know how I feel about Global Warming...are things changing....yeah, I guess so... but I also believe if you give it enough time we'll see the worst winters we've ever seen....the old saying what goes around comes around (Justin Timberlake anyone?) applies here...

One of my fav threads on here was the one about the Global Warming meeting getting snowed out...I didnt see that in the news and I laughed about that for days

I think that if Global Warming exists, it's just one end of the pendulum's swing. Those who endorse Global Warming also believe there were Ice Ages. Doesn't that suggest that Global Warming was going on thousands of years before we would have made any sort of contribution?

Al Gore seems to be ignoring some very important questions. I watched An Inconvenient Truth with my own set of questions, completely prepared to hear Al's rebuttal, but there was no rebuttal. There was only a carefully-selected group of "facts" arranged to support his case. Because so many questions remain unanswered and Al Gore has refused to take part in an open debate on the topic, I think it's obvious that the popular model of Global Warming is built on a shaky foundation.

The idea that the rise in carbon levels has caused the rise in average temperatures is a logical leap. What if it's the other way around?

What about the aforementioned fact that the average temperature has gone up roughly 1 degree in the past 100 years? (An Inconvenient Truth conveniently leaves this out)

We only have a few hundred years' worth (if that) of hard climactic data at our disposal. To draw conclusions based upon such a small sample of data would be like saying a child who has grown six inches in a year will be five feet taller in ten years.

Those are just a few problems with Al Gore's approach. There are also problems with the way temperature readings are being taken, and there's even a part of Gore's presentation in An Inconvenient Truth that supports the idea that the polar ice caps and glaciers would be melting without our help.

So yes, Global Warming exists, but so does Global Cooling, and there's little to nothing we can do to control it. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be responsible with how we treat the environment, but Climate Change shouldn't factor into it.

agreed.

Ironically, many scientists in OTHER disciplines disagree with this popular but flawed theory- yet no one listens.

My wife is currently taking several courses incl Earth Science and Astronomy (not ASTROLOGY) and esp in the second one- the vast majority see climate trends as very fluid and swings one way or the other are both EXPECTED and TEMPORARY.

you'll not see that viewpoint in the mainstream, however.

this is my 2 worthless cents......

You must have condensation to make ice caps.....

there needs to be more heat for there to be condensation....

If heat, therefore condensation
if condensation, therefore ice caps
if heat, therefore more effing ice caps----there duh

Al Gore is seriously turning into RD for me......I think i am going to devote the rest my life to making him look like a jack#@s

Well, when its in the 80s in Blacksburg (which is in the mountains) in October, then it is a bit warm. However, I just think that was an anomaly...a fluke...and had absolutely nothing to do with pollution.

The summers are so much hotter than they were when I was growing up. When I was growing up, there were heavy snows every winter, but it is not even supposed to snow this year.

***Note***
Growing up - Pennsylvania
Last 10 summers - Oklahoma
This winter - Costa Rica

I think you will see more and more people with the opinion below:
"We're brainwashing our children," said Dr Gray, 78, a long-time professor at Colorado State University. "They're going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It's ridiculous."...."We'll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realise how foolish it was," Dr Gray said.
During his speech to a crowd of about 300 that included meteorology students and a host of professional meteorologists, Dr Gray also said those who had linked global warming to the increased number of hurricanes in recent years were in error.

He cited statistics showing there were 101 hurricanes from 1900 to 1949, in a period of cooler global temperatures, compared to 83 from 1957 to 2006 when the earth warmed.

"The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures," Dr Gray said.

He said his beliefs had made him an outsider in popular science.

"It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong," he said. "But they also know that they'd never get any grants if they spoke out. I don't care about grants."
