....wow...has this guy become a huge tard or what....

i've never been a huge fan of his but this was unwatchable....besides the fact he is disliked by the entire rest of the standup world, he can be funny at times but this i didn't laugh once...

maybe i just am predisposed to not like him....when i first saw him on CCP with his black tanktop dumping water over his head, i was like this guy is obnoxious and not very funny....then he grew into this ridiculous star yet was still never really all that funny....

the crowd was nothing but hs kids and college students....all laughing hystericcally at dane stomp around telling louis ck jokes (shouldn't of gone there) but really.....

hes a much better saleman than he is a comedian....i'm not one to bash on a guy just because hes super popular but i really don't see it....

also, i saw jim gaffigan 2 weeks ago, and it was hysterical....i had chapped cheeks from the tears that strolled down my face....

I've only been to see a comedian once, and it was Brian Regan last year. I didn't stop laughing from the very first thing he said until I got into the car. It was actually quite painful. I've honesly only heard Dane Cook once, and I can't even remember any of his jokes. He must not be too great.

i love brian regan....you have to see the show...his cd's are funny but so much is lost w/out his delivery...

the problem with dane cook is he doesn't have punchlines in his jokes...he just apparently screams a story at you...one that happened to him or another comedian....

the only funny comic who was a known joke thief?.....dennis leary

I listen to a lot.

His delivery, his observations, & the fact that he had immense stage fright, made him like no other.

I do like Brian Regan, as well.

If you can stand the language and subject Matter, Eddie Murphy Raw is really really funny. Eddie Murphy Delirious is a close second and Dave Chapelle has a special from 2000 that is histerical. I think Dane Cook is ok but I don't get the phenominon. Seeing people in person seems to make them funnier. I don't drink so you can't blame it on the alcohol. I saw Bill Belamy and Jamie Foxx live at the same time and both killed it. I like Mitch Hedburg too. I used to love Steven Wright who is the 80's version of Mitch sort of. Brian Regan is pretty funny. I used to love Kevin Pollack but he started acting full time. His impressions are dead on of Captain Kirk and Jack Nicholson even though they have been done by everybody.

I'd say Mitch, Eddie Murphy, & Bill Cosby are my top 3, followed by Chapelle. Eddie & Bill could tell great stories. Mitch is not a storyteller. Just a completely different style. The fact that he was aware of the audience's reactions & he would say things like, "that joke was better than you acted" made him.

one of the things that people say when you tell them that dane cook just tells stories is "murray and cosby did too"....sorry their stories are A) much funnier and B) usualy there is a punchline...

Agreed. I'm not a Dane Cook fan. Cosby & Murphy could run circles around him in their sleep. Murphy's Delirious & Cosby's Himself are must haves for any fan of comedy.

Running around and screaming isn't comedy. It's rock and roll. Rock and roll isn't funny.

People at Liberty are obsessed with Dane Cook (at least the ones I'm around). I'll be honest, I liked his last cd when it first came out. Then it started getting played everywhere, kids started quoting it every five seconds, and it just stopped being funny and started being annoying. Now he's doing movies, commercials, and just being an overall d-----bag.

Some of my favorites that haven't been listed in this thread:

Stephen Lynch
Lewis Black
Frank Caliendo
Rodney Carrington

There are more, I just can't think of em.

Caliendo's impressions are amazing.

Another guy I like is The Funniest Man in America, James Gregory. He's from Georgia, so his comedy has a lot to do with the south, but people all over the country like him.

Caliendo is getting his own show on TBS. It's a sketch comedy show. I think it has potential because he's probably the best impressionist in America today.

Scar you are absolutely right about Dave C's stand up...this is my all time list

1. Chris Rock - Bigger and Blacker his others are not to bad either
2. Dave Chappelle's Stand up
3. Mitch Headberg

PLEEEEEEEEASE take my advice and get Jerry Seinfeld movie...it shows all the comedians in the back talking and Chris Rock and Jerry were talking and he asked Jerry if he's seen Bill Cosby's new material he said it's 3 hours of the best stuff he's ever heard...it's pretty cool watching them talk and interact with one another...kind of like a glimpse into convo's Tiger Woods and Roger Fed would have.

Hedberg is the best in my book as well. As far as Dane Cook goes, it was funnier the first time Louis C.K. told it...

:nod

Although, Dane Cook has a much more approachable (a.k.a. dumbed down, stupid) delivery when he tell the stolen jokes. I think that's why he's popular.

I was just watching Jim Rome is burning and that Blind Date guy was on his panel again and he said "I've never someone more popular for NOT being funny since Dane Cook" I forget what it was in reference to but I laughed and thought about this thread.

any of you guys hear/see demetri martin or Christian Finnegan? There relatively new to the scene and a mixture of gaffigan with seinfeld.

Demetri Martin is downright hilarious at times. He's in the Mitch Hedberg mold of telling jokes (as is Jimmy Carr) but he hasn't quite perfected his stuff yet.

I can watch Lewis Black over and over and laugh like crazy.

I knew that'd get on here before I had a chance to post it. It was about Owens.
