The wife and I are driving down to Charlotte tonight to see the Foo Fighters at Cricket Arena. I don't get off work until 6pm so we'll probably miss the opener (HiFi Handgrenades - no idea who they are). Hopefully we'll be there in time to see the who set of the Foos. Anybody seen them in concert before? I saw them at HFStival in Baltimore in 2005 and they were good but it was a short festival set. Hopefully tonight will be a great show. I've always enjoyed their stuff (other than In Your Honor) and I'm enjoying the new album. I'll post a review this weekend. Any thoughts?

Also, the wife and I got tickets to see the Smashing Pumpkins in Greensboro on November 8th. Explosions in the Sky are opening (great instrumental rock band). Can't wait. There are some decent shows coming up that we're looking forward to.

If you are late, don't fret...I hear they may be starting a little late, due to the amount of Foo they will be Fighting first. Sorry....Letterman joke.

I want to go to that SP show in Greensboro, but so far it doesn't look like it will pan out.

Never been able to see Foo Fighters, either, but Dave Grohl is a rock hero of mine. Have fun rocking out, dude.

Other shows I want to go to but probably won't get to include:

Saves the Day, Oct. 12th @ Alley Katz in Richmond
Stars, Oct. 26th @ Cat's Cradle in Chapel Hill
Jimmy Eat World, Oct. 28th @ Disco Rodeo in Raleigh
Brand New, Nov. 28th @ Disco Rodeo in Raleigh

I'm still going to make an effort, even if I am an old man now.

I was there. Amazing show. Easily Top 5. The forces of foo were successfully fought in the Queen City that night.

Great show! They played a great mix of songs. I'll Stick Around was the only thing off their self-titled album. Highlights for me were Stacked Actors with Dave going into the crowd and playing some Ted Nugent before finishing the song and Everlong into Monkey Wrench was great toward the end. Great energy and Dave was his usual funny self. Also, Pat Smear played guitar on about half the songs. Definitely recommend seeing them. Dave said they'd be back in town in the spring. Good times.

Excellent! The crowd screamed it alone with Dave not participating and I assumed it was over. Pretty cool. Then Dave launched into it after about 30 seconds of near silence. It was great. Probably my favorite part of the entire show.

I'm really looking forward to the show next month. I was really disappointed that I didn't get tickets when tehy were at the Orange Peel in Asheville back in the summer. The best show I've seen this year was the White Stripes at GMU. The Foos were great too. Hopefully the Smashing Pumpkins live up to the hype. I'm also looking forward to the opener, Explosions in the Sky who are supposed to be a great live act,

If it's anything like any of their other tours/shows it will be LOUD. They have a solid reputation for having the loudest shows. Billy likes it cranked. When they played the Smith Center in Chapel Hill on the Mellon Collie tour, no one could hear the next day.

Setlist Update: Instead of The Colour and The Shape they actually played See You. Just thought I'd clear that up.

Here's a recording I found. Quality isn't soundboard but it's still pretty decent.

The download is in FLAC. If you want, you can always take an extra step to convert it down to mp3.

Excellent - downloading now! Thanks!

Looks like the taper was standing near me... I wonder if I'll hear myself.

/EDIT/
I'm pretty sure I can hear my own "woo" at times.

I wonder if the Ted Nugent thing was planned, or if he just did it because of the cowboy hat.

Well, I know it's a bit late, but I've finally uploaded the videos I took at the show. They're not great quality since they were taken with a digital camera but it is what it is. Most aren't complete songs. Also, I was too busy rocking out to Monkey Wrench and Stacked Actors to get anything. Here ya go:

See You:

My Hero:

Everlong:
