Here is a perspective. Now I know there is a difference between Toledo and VT, if you look at how close we were in the game against W&M you would think it was somewhat impressive. Than the next weekend W&M goes to Lane Stadium and plays VT and loses 44 to 3. NOw you can clearly see the line between Div. 1A and our club. MAny people say to me when I make this statement well Appalchian St. beat Michigan so it can happen a Div. 1AA team can beat a Div.1a team. True but than we get hammered by Elon and they go on to get hammered by Appalchian St. We are no Appalchain St. right now. So from looking at how we lost to W&M and they turn around and get hammered by VT and than we lose to Elon and they get Hammered by App. St.. I think Toledo as a Div. 1a team we dont stand that good of a chance against them, considering we can't handle Div 1AA teams like Elon and W&M.

Logically you make some good sense and can't argue with your score prediction. I thought that the Elon/App State game was a little closer than the score indicated with App State pulling away late and coming off a loss to Wofford would have "fired them up" to beat Elon. Elon did play South Florida tough though and look at what South Florida did in beating Auburn and West Virginia. I don't like the fact that William and Mary got rolled by Virginia Tech since Tech is not having that great of a year but W & M did beat Towson so they could be a middle of the pack Colonial team right now. I will have to see how the rest of the season pans out for Elon and William and Mary. The Toledo game scares me since they are probably better than their record with some tough losses to good teams and it is their homecoming so they definately have something to prove and will go all out to make a statement that they are back and comparable to the Toledo teams of the past. It is an opportunity for LU to prove something that has not been done in 10 years and that is to beat a quality opponent. The rest of our schedule might not give us that chance so we have got to make it at least respectable.

I understand your rationale 6flamefans, but you can't go by how other teams fared. Sure, it helps to give some barometer as to where certain teams may stack up, but that doesn't factor in all the intagibles that go on from game to game. Sure we got beat bad by Elon, but I guarantee you if we played them 9 more times we would beat them at least 2 or 3 times, and the remainder of those games would be fairly close. We just didn't show up. Same could have happened with W&M at VT. You never know.

Generally speaking, yes. But this season has shown that a slew of I-AAs can compete even with average to good I-As. Toledo would fall into the bad I-A category so I would suggest its not impossible by any means. Based on scholies alone it will be VERY difficult.

Something to consider: Last year we traveled to Wake where we played decent (yes only decent) and came out looking fairly good. We lost 34-14 to the ACC Champions at their Homecoming game. The atmosphere at Wake is certainly better than the atmosphere at Toledo. Wake had much more to play for against us last season then Toledo does this season and our football team is better this year then we were last year. Toledo is not Wake, and if we play good at Wake last year it's 31-24. We can win this game, and a big showing here turns out HUGE numbers for our homecoming game. If we win at Toledo, we may have 20K at Homecoming. Final score- Liberty wins by 3. Toledo scores late, kicks an onside kick, and we recover to hang on to the win.

I like that comparison to the Wake Forest game we had last year. At Wake's homecoming we played descent against the ACC champs and held our own very well and I thought that everyone on the board knew that and was satisfied with the outcome. We all knew how good Wake was going to be and took that into consideration. I thought that we shot ourselves in the foot early in the game and we overcame that in the second half with a descent showing. Toledo is no Wake Forest. I would like to think that we could at least stay within a touchdown of them and maybe if we catch some big breaks then could pull the upset. I will be very disappointed if we get steamrolled like 60-3 (Bowling Green)or 63-3 (Marshall) as we have been in the past when we play these 1A's. No reason we should be blown out by a very mediocre team like Toledo.
